As part of the wider Saffron Acres team, your Saff Caff staff attended this excellent training, which will help us to offer you support when you need it.

We are here every Tuesday from 10-4, including 23rd and 30th December. We know not everyone will be celebrating or feeling festive over the next few weeks, so why not pop in and say hello, have a chat and a cuppa.

Find us just off Saffron Lane at 60 Heathcott Road, LE2 6AX. You'll see our banner on the gate, just ring the bell and we will come and let you in. We're also available on the phone between the same hours on 07393036131.

The team at Saffron Acres has just completed a 2-day training course in Mental Health Advocacy. The training equipped us with the tools to spot the things in the workplace and beyond that might contribute to mental ill health.

The training helped develop our skills and confidence to recognise and positively respond to the signs and symptoms of common mental health conditions and guide an individual towards the right support. It has given us the skills to listen, reassure and react positively even in a crisis situation.

It also helped us to understand our boundaries and limitations, and how to look after our own wellbeing when trying to support others.

We would highly recommend this training for anyone wanting to know more about supporting mental health.

Thanks to Mental Health Trainer Catherine from Vita Health Group, for delivering this course in such an interesting, thought provoking and engaging way.

Saff Caff Craft Day!

Saff Caff staff offered visitors the opportunity to join in with some festive willow wreath crafting this week.

Working on a craft project is a great way to support mental health and wellbeing. Focusing on making and creating quietens the mind, and also provides a relaxed atmosphere for conversations to arise naturally.

As a bonus, our visitors were able to take away some beautiful creations to keep or gift to loved ones.

We are here every Tuesday 10-4 if you are feeling in need of company, support or signposting.

Inspiring individuals, dedicated teams and passionate volunteers from across Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT) were honoured for their exceptional contributions at a sparkling awards ceremony held on Friday (26 September) evening at The Grand Hotel in Leicester.

This saw the Excellence in Partnership Awards (sponsored by Browne Jacobson) being presented to Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes!

Forty-one Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes are delivered in partnership with 16 voluntary sector organisations across LLR every week. The scheme has provided direct support to more than 8,000 people in the last year who have been able to drop-in to get help without the need to book an appointment, potentially avoiding the need to go to A&E. The partnership reflects the diversity of the LLR population and organisations both represent and truly understand the needs of the community they support.

How do you take care of your mental health?

World Mental Health Day 10th October 2025

World Mental Health Day spotlights the fact that everyone has mental health. It matters 365 days of the year, but the 10th October is a chance for us all to unite across the world to educate and raise awareness of mental health matters. It encourages each one of us to look after our own mental health and also to have greater understanding and empathy for the mental health experiences of others.

We offer support for Mental Health in many ways, including through the Saff Caff Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafe, our therapeutic gardening sessions, opportunities for volunteering and wellbeing activities such as T’ai Chi, Relaxation (Eco Nidra) and mindful crafts.

https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/ is a great source of information and support, just look for their best mental health tips.

Number one on their list is "Get closer to nature!"

Some of our team members are at Aylestone Leisure Centre for the Summer Wellness Wellbeing event hosted by local NHS and Active Leicester..

The event , open until 3pm, will give people the chance to speak to representatives from various organisations about issues that may be impacting their mental health. Experts will be providing advice and support on many matters such as self-care and wellbeing, getting active, housing, bereavement and much more.

While that is happening Saff Caff is open as usual from 10-4. We have fans and open space to keep you cool, as well as our usual 1:1 meeting, group activities and signposting.

What is Loneliness Awareness Week?

Loneliness Awareness Week (9-15th June) is a week dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness. It's all about creating supportive communities by having open, honest conversations. Loneliness is a natural human emotion - we are hardwired to need social connections. By talking about it, we can support ourselves and others.

Saff Caff is open on Tuesday 10-4, we are here to keep you company as well as offering other support for your mental health and wellbeing.

We have had an on-going project with this 1000 piece puzzle (a Wasgij, where the image on the box picture doesn’t quite match the puzzle!).

We finally finished it today! Many thanks to all of our visitors who have helped by putting a few pieces in here and there each week.

If you're looking for a way to boost your mental wellbeing, doing jigsaw puzzles is a great option. Not only can it provide a peaceful distraction from everyday stress, but it could also have a positive impact on cognitive function and brain health. Doing them as part of a social group can add to the benefits.

Saff Caff is open to support you every Tuesday 10-4, whether you need a 1:1 chat, signposting, a support plan or some social activity time (jigsaws optional!).
