Doctors in the region are urgently calling on all children and adults with a learning disability and their carers to get a free flu vaccine as soon as possible.

Flu cases are rising this winter and can be extremely dangerous for those most at risk.

Only 35% of people with a learning disability across the region have already had their flu vaccine this winter – leaving too many still unprotected.

New digital services to support people with their health have moved a step closer thanks to innovations developed by six companies selected as part of the region’s effort to help people stay well and in work.

More than 130 companies put forward ideas to help people manage their health so they can remain in work, with the successful entries focusing on areas including mental health, menopause, and musculoskeletal conditions.

They include a digital platform available in South Tyneside which features more than 300 exercise videos to support recovery from musculoskeletal conditions. Patient feedback will drive improvements, and the service will integrate with existing clinical records.
