BMG patients, lets talk about "When painkillers become part of the problem…"
Medicines like opioids, gabapentin, pregabalin, benzodiazepines and sleeping tablets can really help with pain in the short term πŸ’Šβœ¨
But when used long-term, they can often stop working β€” and sometimes even make pain worse πŸ˜”
Over time, these medicines can increase the risk of:
⚠️ Dependence and withdrawal symptoms
⚠️ Increased pain
⚠️ Poor sleep and low mood
⚠️ Dizziness, falls and confusion
⚠️ Breathing problems (especially when medicines are combined)
We know that the thought of reducing pain medicines can feel worrying πŸ’πŸ’™
But with a gradual, supported reduction, many people notice:
πŸŒ™ Better sleep
🧠 Clearer thinking
🚢 Improved balance
😊 Better overall wellbeing
🀝 Support is available : If you’re taking long-term pain medicines and would like support with a safe reduction, please contact us via our online appointment request/phone or call into surgery to enquire.

πŸ“’ Important Information for BMG Patients on HRT or Contraceptive Pills & Taking Mounjaro πŸ’‰πŸ’Š

We’d like to share an important update from the British Menopause Society that may affect some of our patients at Bay Medical Group. πŸ’¬

➑️ If you're on HRT and take a progesterone tablet, please note:
πŸ“Œ Mounjaro (tirzepatide) injections may reduce the absorption of oral progesterone, especially when:
β€’ Starting the injection
β€’ Increasing the dose

⚠️ This could lead to unexpected bleeding or thickening of the womb lining.
πŸ‘‰ To stay safe, you may need a higher dose of progesterone for 4 weeks after starting or increasing Mounjaro.

➑️ If you’re on the contraceptive pill, Mounjaro may also affect its effectiveness.
πŸ›‘ It’s recommended to use an additional barrier method (e.g. condoms) for 4 weeks after starting or changing your dose.

We’re currently reviewing and advising patients who may be affected. However, we aren’t always notified if patients are accessing Mounjaro privately or online. 🌐

❓Not sure if this affects you?
πŸ“ž Please contact the surgery to speak with a clinician β€” we’re here to help and guide you.

Your safety is our priority πŸ’™

🀒🦠 BMG patients, Norovirus is doing the rounds! 🦠🀒
For most people it’s unpleasant but short-lived, however for others β€” especially the very young, older adults, or those with weakened immune systems β€” it can have a bigger impact πŸ’™

🚫 The best way to protect yourself and others is simple:
🧼 Wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water!
🚽 After going to the toilet
πŸ₯— Before preparing or eating any food

❌ Remember β€” alcohol gels won’t kill norovirus, so proper handwashing is key! πŸ™ŒπŸ’¦

Stay well, stay clean, and help stop the spread πŸ’ͺ

πŸ“’ What happens when we've reached capacity for the day and are fully booked for anymore appointments? πŸ•˜πŸ’»πŸ“ž

BMG patients, we often get asked about what do you do when you ring/call in/submit an online request for an appointment and are told "we have non left for the day", but you still have a need medically, to be seen.

We know it can be frustrating not to get an appointment, and we’d love to help everyone, but our priority is keeping all our patients, including you and our clinical team safe πŸ’™βš–οΈ

Our appointments can’t be unlimited β€” and once we’ve reached safe working capacity, here's what happens πŸ‘‡

πŸ”Ή If you submitted a request before capacity was reached:
βœ… Your symptoms will be reviewed by our clinical assessment team
πŸ“© You’ll receive a text message or call with the outcome
πŸ₯ If on-the-day input is needed and we’re full, you’ll be signposted to NHS 111 (let them know your GP surgery is at capacity)

πŸ”Ή If your request is triaged as not needing a same day appointment: we will contact you informing you of this outcome.
πŸ“…Routine appointments can take upto 1 month to be assigned depending on your medical need.
🧾 Our Patient Advisor Team will be in touch when a suitable appointment becomes available
πŸ“©We now send holding texts at regular intervals to keep you updated
πŸ™We have just introduced this, so please accept our apologies if you haven't received one prior to this post
Please note that if a specific clinician is requested or determined to be the most appropriate for continuity of care, this may result in a longer wait time.

πŸ”Ή If you contact us after we’ve reached safe working capacity for the day:
πŸ“ž Our team will direct you to NHS111 or if your symptoms can wait, we ask you to get in touch the next working day (let them know your GP surgery is at capacity)

πŸ’‘Top Tips:
πŸŒ… You can submit your medical request as early as 7:30AM
πŸ“„ The more information regarding your symptoms the better ! this helps our clinical team when reviewing your request
πŸ“΅ Medical requests are closed when the surgery is shut
πŸ“„ Please do not submit medical requests using the admin form as it will not be processed.

We’re here for you – and working hard to help everyone as safely and fairly as possible πŸ’™

BMG patients, please don't put off your smear if you are due one.
Get it booked this week!!!
Alternatively, we have a walk in smear clinic if that suits better at our West End surgery 5pm to 8pm Tuesday 17th February 2026.
πŸ“…No appointments necessary just turn up
🌸🌸If you have had any procedures in the last 12 weeks , that may have disturbed the cells of your cervix. Or have used any oestrogen creams or pessaries in the past 2 days, you may not be able to have your smear test done 🌸🌸
Tag a friend and let's spread the importance of health empowerment. πŸš€πŸ’•
