In Chinese medicine, creativity flows through the Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. Wood fuels imagination and growth; Fire inspires passion; Earth grounds ideas; Metal refines expression; and Water nurtures intuition, enabling balanced, harmonious creative energy. In order to make the most of your creativity ensure that all the elements are robust and balanced. Talk to us about getting the right combination.

Acupuncture can improve sleep by reducing stress, regulating melatonin, and easing pain or anxiety. Evidence suggests benefits for insomnia, though effectiveness will always depend on your individual health. Whatever you are dealing with we often begin with improving sleep as this can help your body fight other conditions. Call to have a chat about your sleep patterns and how we approach insomnia

Acupuncture is used for many conditions, but research suggests the strongest evidence so far for effectiveness with:

Chronic pain (low back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis, knee pain)

Headaches and migraines

Postoperative and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting

Tension-type headaches

There’s also growing evidence for allergies, anxiety, insomnia, infertility, and menopausal symptoms. Talk to us about this evidence and how acupuncture may help you

Welcome back to Lunesdale Acupuncture after a short summer break. We greatly value the passing of each season as a way of preparing for the joys and challenges to come.
In Chinese medicine, autumn belongs to Metal, linked to lungs and large intestine. It emphasizes letting go, guarding against dryness, nourishing with moist foods, conserving energy, and balancing grief with clarity. Come in for a treatment to honour this change and prepare for Winter in good spirits.

In Chinese medicine, summer symbolizes peak Yang energy, governed by the Heart and Fire element. It promotes joy, activity, and growth but requires balance to prevent heat-related issues. Nourishing the Heart and staying cool supports emotional and physical well-being. At Lunesdale Acupuncture we like to offer clients a regular tune-up at the start of each season. In Summer the needles help the body and mind to ‘stay cool’ and ‘promote joy’. Speak to Gen for more detail about this fascinating time

Acupuncture needles generally aren’t painful. They’re extremely thin—much thinner than hypodermic needles—and most people feel only a slight prick, tingling, or a dull ache when they’re inserted. Some don’t feel anything at all.

That said, sensitivity can vary depending on the area being treated and your personal pain threshol. We at Lunesdale Acupuncture take very great care to apply the needles carefully and delicately for every patient please ring to discuss prior to first treatment.

Heat!!

We have been enjoying the sunshine that the recent heatwave has brought us. But if we diagnose that you have excess heat in your body then that is not such great news.

In Chinese medicine, "heat" refers to an excess of yang energy, often manifesting as inflammation, fever, or irritation. It's associated with symptoms like redness, swelling, and a sensation of warmth. At Lunesdale Acupuncture we might diagnose heat patterns in various conditions, such as infections or inflammatory diseases, and our treatment would aim to cool and balance the body's energy, or "qi."

A recent research project published in BMJ looked at over 50 non surgical interventions for the treatment of back pain.

“The analysis shows that acupuncture is among the best-performing therapies available for back pain. The study also looked at heat and cupping, and indicated that these therapies lead to moderate and small reductions in pain, respectively. However, both cupping and heat, in the form of moxibustion, are part of the traditional practice of acupuncture” British Acupuncture Council summary.

Happy Easter to all our patients and hoping you get a break to enjoy Springtime. It may be time to think about acupuncture for those health conditions that have been getting slowly worse over the Winter and nothing seems to be working. Because of the holistic nature of Chinese Medicine, acupuncture can treat a range of issues, often where it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what is not right in your body and mind.

Chinese thinking does not really recognise “luck” as a concept - though we will wish the best of luck to our friends on St Patrick’s Day. Chinese Medicine emphasizes the concept of the "way" or "path" of the universe, a natural and ever-changing force, not based on luck. Living in harmony with the Tao, or "flowing with the water," is seen as the path to a fulfilling life for us as human beings. So much of acupuncture treatment seeks to increase the internal “flow” and prevent “stagnation” that in turn causes physical pain and feelings of stuckness. Contact us to discuss how this concept can help you practically.
