What's your perspective of the elephant?

This is a famous story about 6 blind men in a little village who was invited to experience an elephant for the first time. They each had a perspective based on part of the elephant they touched. The thing was they each got it wrong. To understand the elephant was to see the elephant as a whole. This is the approach we use at Care centered LTD, where we provide holistic care, seeing the person as a whole and ensuring we consider the individual needs that incoperates the whole person.

Why domiciliary care?

Anyone working in a domiciliary care job works with clients who live in their own homes but have difficulty with every day tasks. A domiciliary carer is there to help promote their independence, enhance their wellbeing and protect their dignity by providing assistance to them based on their specific need within the guidance of the client. People of all ages rely on domiciliary care for the assistance necessary to remain in their own homes and lead as full a life as they choose. It takes away the idea of being institutionalised and keeps the individual in an environment which is known to them. Domicilary care promotes autonomy, It gives individuals a choice and respects their decisions.

It takes a particular type of person to be a domiciliary carer, compassion and empathy is the key and this promotes an attitude which is much more important than the level of qualifications in the first instance. You need to be genuinely motivated towards helping others and have a desire to provide excellent service for every client you visit. Qualifications and training are essential in order to progress the level of care you give, but it’s important that your personality is suited towards caring for others. It is not only a job but one of the few jobs that at the end of the day you actually feel that you have made a difference and have put a little sunshine in someone's day.

We will all get to that stage in life, but right now you are at the point where you could provide that support for someone else. Would you?
