⚠️ Meningitis: Know the Signs

Watch for symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, nausea or vomiting, confusion, extreme drowsiness, or a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed. If several symptoms appear together, seek urgent medical advice. Early action can save lives.

The Generation Study

🌼 The Generation Study

Helping to spot rare conditions early in new born babies

We are taking part in the Generation Study, a national NHS research programme looking at the genes of new born babies. The aim is to find rare conditions early so that children can get treatment as soon as possible.

🩸 How it works

• After birth, with the mother’s consent, a small sample of cord blood is taken.
• This sample is checked for over 200 rare but treatable conditions, such as:
o Sickle cell disease
o Cystic fibrosis
o Hereditary retinoblastoma

🕒 How long the study lasts
• The study is planned to run until December 2026, but it may be extended.
• If you consent, your child stays part of the study until age 16, when they can choose whether to continue.

🔐 Your privacy
• Taking part is completely voluntary.
• You can change your mind and withdraw at any time.
• All information is secure and anonymised.
• Only approved researchers can access the data to help develop new treatments.
