🌟 The twelve cautions of Christmas – Number 5

🍗 Today we’re talking about food poisoning.

🎄 At Christmas if you’re the designated chef first of all, we applaud you! Also, it’s likely you’re going to be cooking for more people than usual, possibly under the influence of alcohol (although we’d recommend going easy on the Christmas bubbles until dinner is safely on the table!).

⬇️ Here are some common causes of food poisoning during Christmas and how to avoid them:

🌟 Cross-contamination
🔪 Avoid using the same cutting boards and utensils for raw meats and ready-to-eat foods. Keep it separate, keep it safe!

🌟 Undercooked food
🦐 Ensure poultry, meats, and seafood reach the recommended internal temperatures. A meat thermometer is a great addition to your kitchen so you can check meat is thoroughly cooked. It’s better (and safer) to cook your turkey for longer on a lower heat that to whack the temperature up if isn’t cooking as quickly as you hoped. Undercooked turkey can cause salmonella poisoning, which can be life-threatening, especially for those who are very young or old.

🌟 Leftovers
❄️ Refrigerate those delicious leftovers promptly (within 2 hours) to prevent bacteria from forming.

♥️ Hopefully you and your guests can enjoy this festive season without any tummy troubles!

😌 And once dinner’s done with you can sit and relax while the washing up is taken care of!

❓ Will you be cooking this year? Let us know in the comments.
