🦸‍♀️ Be a Nutrition Superhero! 🦸‍♂️

You don’t need a cape to save the day — just awareness and care. 💙

Nutrition superheroes are everywhere:
🥦 The carer who encourages an extra snack
🥣 The nurse who screens for malnutrition early
🍎 The family member who checks in on an older relative’s meals
💧 The friend who reminds someone to stay hydrated

Each small action helps prevent malnutrition, supports recovery, and improves lives.

💙 Together, we can make a difference — one meal, one conversation, one check-in at a time.

🥦 The Impact of Malnutrition 🥦

Malnutrition doesn’t just affect body weight — it impacts every part of health and daily life.

It can lead to:
🔹 Weakened immunity — more frequent illness or infections
🔹 Muscle loss — increasing risk of falls and frailty
🔹 Slower recovery from illness, injury, or surgery
🔹 Low energy and reduced independence
🔹 Longer hospital stays and higher healthcare needs

💙 But it’s preventable.
With early screening and the right nutritional support, people can regain strength, recover faster, and improve quality of life.

If you’re concerned about yourself, a loved one, or someone in your care, speak to a healthcare professional.

💧 Hydration and Malnutrition: A Vital Connection 💧

Did you know that staying hydrated is an important part of preventing and managing malnutrition?

When the body doesn’t get enough fluid, it can:
🔹 Reduce appetite
🔹 Make swallowing and digestion harder
🔹 Increase tiredness and confusion
🔹 Lead to serious health complications

💙 Hydration helps the body use nutrients effectively — supporting energy, recovery, and overall health.

✅ Encourage small, frequent drinks throughout the day
✅ Water, milk, tea, and soups all count
✅ Offer foods with high water content — like fruit, yogurt, or custard

If you’re worried about hydration or nutrition — for yourself, a family member, or someone you care for — speak to a healthcare professional.

🌿 It’s — a friendly reminder to carve out a little “you” time this week.
We may be living longer, but not always healthier: rising chronic conditions and increased stress mean we need to look after our minds and our bodies.
That’s why self‑care isn’t just nice — it’s key.

Here are a few ideas you might try:
• Take a mindful walk 🚶‍♀️
• Try meditation 🧘
• Set boundaries — it’s ok to say no
• Speak to someone if you’re struggling
• Do one thing that brings you joy

Self‑care means something different for everyone. Find what works for you.

🥦 Who’s at risk of malnutrition? 🥦

Malnutrition can affect anyone — but some people are at higher risk:
🔹 Older adults
🔹 People with long-term health conditions
🔹 Those recovering from illness or surgery
🔹 Individuals with swallowing or digestive difficulties
🔹 Anyone with a reduced appetite or unintentional weight loss

It’s not always visible — even people who appear a healthy weight can be malnourished.

💙 Early screening and support make a huge difference.
If you’re concerned about yourself, a loved one, or someone in your care, talk to a healthcare professional.

🥦 Myth vs Fact: Malnutrition Awareness Week (17–23 November) 🥦

Malnutrition isn’t always obvious — and it’s surrounded by a few common myths. Let’s set the record straight 👇

❌ Myth: Malnutrition only affects people who are underweight.
✅ Fact: Anyone can be malnourished — even those who appear to be a healthy weight. It’s about what your body needs, not just what it weighs.

❌ Myth: It’s a normal part of ageing.
✅ Fact: While appetite and eating habits can change with age, malnutrition is not inevitable. Early screening and support make a big difference.

❌ Myth: You’ll always feel hungry if you’re malnourished.
✅ Fact: Some people lose their appetite entirely, which makes malnutrition harder to spot.

💙 Early screening saves lives.
If you’re worried about yourself, a family member, or someone in your care — talk to a healthcare professional.

🥦 Spot the Signs – Screen for Malnutrition 🥦

During UK Malnutrition Awareness Week (17–23 November), we’re highlighting the importance of malnutrition screening.

Malnutrition often goes unnoticed — but early screening can save lives.
It helps identify those at risk, support timely intervention, and improve overall health outcomes.

🔹 Look out for signs such as:

Unplanned weight loss

Reduced appetite

Low energy levels

If you’re concerned about yourself, a family member, or someone in your care, speak to a healthcare professional. Screening is simple but powerful — prevention starts with awareness. 💙

🌈 Transgender Awareness Week (11–17 November) 🌈

Trans Awareness Week is a time to celebrate transgender and gender non-conforming people, raise visibility, and highlight the issues the community faces. 💜

Want to show your support and be an ally? Here are a few ways to start:
✨ Respect pronouns – Always use an individual’s chosen pronouns.
🎧 Listen to trans voices – Hear, validate, and amplify their experiences.
📚 Learn – Take time to understand concepts like s*x assigned at birth, gender identity, and gender expression.

Together, we can create a world that’s inclusive, respectful, and affirming for everyone. 🌍

💙 Anti-Bullying Week | 10–14 November

This year’s theme is ‘Power for Good’ — a reminder that each of us has the power to make a difference.

Bullying affects millions every year, and staying silent allows it to continue. Whether it happens in person or online, use your Power for Good to speak up, support others, and spread kindness.

💬 40% of children were bullied in the past year. Bullying can be physical, verbal, emotional, or discriminatory — including racist, homophobic, or disability-related behaviour.

Together, we can stand up, speak out, and make a change. 💪
