Mindful Breastfeeding Support

It’s common for breastfeeding to be a struggle. I qualified as a Children’s Nurse in 2000 and continue to work locally for the NHS. However, I am now a Mindful Breastfeeding practitioner, something that I have wanted to do for ages. I have trained with Anna Le Grange (IBCLC) from the Mindful Breastfeeding School whose ethos is to support and enhance the breastfeeding journey for mother’s and their families through mindfulness tools to be calm and relaxed. I live in Horsham, West Sussex so I will visit this area and surrounding villages and towns. If you live outside this area, please do message me to see if I can visit you or if online would work for you and your situation.

Yay my business The Blossom Tree 🌸 celebrates its first birthday today 🥳🎂. Sadly the day I launched the business we had a family situation which meant I had to take some time out but today I celebrate the fact I continued, have had clients and have learnt how to use instagram 😆. But I hope for so much more in the next year. Thank you to all those have supported me and continue to support me 💕. Here’s to some exciting times ahead…

5 things I wish I knew about breastfeeding before I had my babies….a few fun and a few serious 🤩💕 with the help of my 10yr old daughter!

Why tongue-tie matters? I am sure part of the reason I went into breastfeeding support is because my first son was tongue-tied and if we didn’t get the help and support we needed I am sure our journey would have been shorter. I noticed subtle changes and signs with a recent client and after seeking advice from a local IBCLC, the client had a full tongue-tie assessment with an appropriate practitioner and had the tongue-tie released. I’m now reading lots and lots to make sure I pick this up again as it is surprisingly more common than we think. However, lots of support prior, during and after the tongue-tie release can increase the chances of successful continued breastfeeding including lots of lovely mindfulness for mum and baby 🌸.

I was pretty shocked by these statistics but it motivates me more to do what I do. Women need support to do something they have never done before and even if they have each baby and journey is different. Breastfeeding can be challenging, painful, time consuming and frustrating and may be that’s why the numbers are the way they are.

Yes I love this word search that I just did with my daughter. Obviously we had to find ‘breastfeed’ first. But love all the other words that could be associated with mindful breastfeeding 🤱 🌸

I seem to always be away during World Breastfeeding Week 🤪but there are a few key messages. However, the most important message is that there is help out there if you need it. I know breastfeeding isn’t always straight forward so give yourself permission to get help if you need or support others who are feeding their babies even if they seem to not be struggling. Breastfeeding consumes 25% of the women’s energy compared to the brain which takes 20% so yes they need support!!
