Grangewood is a bright and welcoming care home offering gold standard residential care for older people, including those living with dementia. The purpose-built care home is set in the village of Shiney Row, close to Houghton-le-Spring in Tyne and Wear. The home has a strong community atmosphere and is close to the local village library, medical centre and various churches. There's also a post office and a pub on the doorstep, and good transport links, which all helps residents to retain their independence. All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

There is nothing better than stepping outside, feeling the sunshine on our faces and enjoying the fresh air together 💛

Our wellness walks are more than just a stroll around the garden — they are moments of connection, laughter and positivity. Walking helps to improve strength, balance and mobility, supports heart health and reduces the risk of falls. But just as importantly, it lifts our mood, clears our minds and gives us that beautiful boost of energy we all need.

The sunshine today made everything feel brighter. It energised us, encouraged conversation and filled us with smiles. There’s something so powerful about natural light and fresh air — it truly refreshes the body and the soul ☀️

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of freshly washed hair, a little trim, a new style and lots of laughter in the salon 💕

Today we celebrated how something as simple as having our hair done can make such a big difference. It’s not just about looking good — it’s about feeling confident, refreshed and uplifted. The smiles, the chats, the memories shared and the boost in wellbeing truly show how important these little luxuries are for our residents.

A huge thank you to our lovely Laura, our amazing hairdresser, who brings not only her talent but also warmth, kindness and friendship to every appointment. 💐 You help our residents feel pampered, valued and beautiful inside and out.

There’s something truly special about time spent in our beautiful summer house 💛

Today we enjoyed a lovely afternoon reminiscing, sharing stories from years gone by, and of course… enjoying a proper cuppa ☕✨

From childhood memories to favourite holidays, first dances to family traditions — the laughter, the smiles and the sparkle in everyone’s eyes said it all. We even treated ourselves to a little singalong, filling the summer house with music, joy and togetherness 🎶💚

Moments like these may seem simple, but they are powerful. Reminiscing supports memory, connection and emotional wellbeing, while music brings comfort, confidence and happiness.

Today we didn’t just celebrate a birthday… we celebrated a wish coming true 💙

John had one very special request for his birthday — he wanted to sit back in his own car again. A place filled with memories, independence, and so many life journeys. And thanks to the kindness and support of our wonderful Bonny, we were able to make that happen ✨

Seeing the smile on John’s face as he sat in his car was truly priceless. It wasn’t just about the vehicle — it was about dignity, memories, freedom, and reconnecting with something that means so much to him.

These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. At Grangewood, no wish is too big or too small. We are committed to fulfilling lives and creating magical memories every single day 💫

Coming together on the 3rd of every month for our group gatherings is always something special. It’s a time filled with laughter, shared stories, new friendships and meaningful connections. These moments truly reflect what we are all about – bringing people together, reducing isolation and creating opportunities for everyone to feel valued and included.

The Ventures Club isn’t just a gathering… it’s a community. A safe, welcoming space where everyone belongs and every voice matters.

🌿✨ Wellness Wednesday – What a Whirlwind of Wonderful Moments! ✨🌿

Today at Grangewood has been nothing short of magical! 💚

We started our morning bright and early with our Breakfast Club, sharing laughter, warm cups of tea, and delicious treats – because there’s nothing better than beginning the day together. ☕🍞

Then it was time to stretch, strengthen and smile with our Pilates session – improving balance, flexibility and mobility, all while boosting our wellbeing and confidence. Every movement counts towards staying strong and independent 💪🌸

Our afternoon took us out into the fresh air for our Penshaw Wellness Walks…

Breathing in that countryside air, enjoying the beautiful views and supporting one another step by step. Wellness walks are so important for heart health, strength, balance and lifting our mood – and the smiles said it all today! 🌤️👣

And to top off a perfect day… we had the honour of granting Fred’s special wish with a visit to the tea rooms 🫖🍰 Making wishes come true, no matter how big or small, is what we’re all about. Seeing the joy on Fred’s face reminded us why we do what we do every single day.

Days like today show how powerful community, movement, fresh air and meaningful moments can be for health and happiness. 💚
