Calling all infant and primary schools!

The University of Sheffield are looking for Reception and Year 1 classes to take part in a study looking into parental experiences with supporting their child’s early literacy and the home-school connection.

This is an online survey and all participating schools will receive a summary report at the end of the study.

Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties can also affect children. VISTA SLT does not provide assessment or intervention for children with Dysphagia. If you are seeking this support for your child, contact your GP in the first instance to request a referral to your local NHS service.

How do SLTs help people with eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties?
As this graphic describes, Speech and Language Therapists have a range of specialist skills to support people with dysphagia.
We know that swallowing difficulties can be debilitating. The good news is there are often strategies which can be suggested to reduce the difficulty. In some cases, difficulties may resolve with time, e.g. in the earlier stages of rehabilitation following a stroke/head injury. In others, therapy programmes may be suggested to focus on muscle strengthening or improving muscle coordination for swallowing.
