💞You do not need to be local to get support from me.

This lovely mum reached out and we had a Zoom call to talk through her concerns around milk supply, pumping and feeding. We couldn’t meet in person as she lives in France, but even over video, we were able to make some simple but important changes that helped things feel clearer, more manageable and more supported.

Support does not always have to be in person to make a real difference.

“Becky is a gem! She met with me through a video chat when I was concerned about my milk supply. She listened to everything and asked insightful questions. She guided me with correct use of a pump and proper ni**le measurement (something which the hospital got terribly wrong). During our video meeting, she made a few immediate suggestions and followed up with a comprehensive email. Her guidance led me to a better feeding and pumping schedule and ultimately improved milk supply. I’m thankful for her checking up on me, too! The world needs more health care professionals like her; people who actually care and love what they are doing. I can’t recommended her enough. Thank you so much, Becky!” Written by H.

What a beautiful way to spend International Women’s Day. 🤍

Today’s Mother Workshop was such a lovely one. We had 12 women join us to learn about the biomechanics of birth, hypnobirthing and relaxation, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and all things feeding.

It was such a warm, supportive day with plenty of chat, learning, and connection.

Thank you so much to everyone who came along.

Our next workshop is on 17th May. If you’d like to come along, send me a message and I can send over the details. ✨

✨Milk Circle is my wee fortnightly drop in for anyone feeding a baby.

No pressure, no judgement, no awkward questions. Just a calm space where you can sit down, have a cuppa, and chat all things feeding.

What it is
🩷 A safe, friendly space for new mums to come as you are
❤️Free, evidence based advice and support with feeding
🧡Breastfeeding, combo feeding, pumping, expressing, supply worries, sore ni**les, latch, bottles, weaning, all welcome
💛A chance to chat, breathe, and feel a bit more human again

And today I had four brand new faces in the room which honestly made my day. If you’ve been thinking about coming but you’re not sure, this is your sign. You can just show up, baby in arms, messy bun, snacks in your pocket, whatever the day looks like.

😩Getting out the door with a newborn can feel like a full military operation, and then baby decides they want fed the second you arrive.

If breastfeeding in public feels daunting, awkward, or like everyone is watching, you are not alone. It is not that you are doing it wrong. It is that you are learning something new, in a new body, with a tiny person who is also learning.

A few things that can help

💕Choose a seat that feels safe

💞Take a friend the first few times

💕Give yourself permission to go slow

And remember you’ve got this.

And a wee question for you… can you remember that scary first time feeding your baby out and about? What tips or tricks helped you most?

Pop them in the comments so another mum can borrow your confidence.

💞 B***s are the answer!

Love this reel. It’s SO relatable!!

Seeing a few shallow latches lately, so here’s a quick tweak that can make a big difference.

A shallow latch often happens when baby comes straight onto the ni**le, like ni**le to mouth. It seems logical, but it can mean baby is not getting much breast tissue in their mouth, which can lead to sore ni**les and inefficient feeds.

Try this instead:
✨ Start with baby’s body in close, nose level with your ni**le✨ Aim your ni**le up towards baby’s nose, not into their mouth✨ Bring baby to you from underneath or slightly to the side, chin first✨ Watch for a wide open mouth, then cuddle them in close.

Small position changes can totally change how feeding feels.

⚡️Did you know those first cuddles after birth can play a real role in getting feeding off to a good start?

A 2024 study looked at skin to skin straight after birth and compared

Skin to skin for 45 minutes or less

vs

Skin to skin for more than 45 minutes.

They found that more than 45 minutes of skin to skin after birth was linked with better early feeds and longer breastfeeding duration up to 6 months.

Take this gently. It is a link, not proof. And if skin to skin is delayed or interrupted, that is not your fault.

If you can, ask for uninterrupted skin to skin after birth, and support to stay there a little longer.

Every minute of closeness counts. 💞

✨Feeding should not feel like something you just have to push through. Here are 4 tips for a deep latch.

A comfy latch often comes down to a few simple checks and tiny tweaks. If you are feeling toe curling pain, getting lipstick shaped ni**les, or your baby keeps slipping on and off, you do not need to struggle alone.

Save this post so you can do a quick check during a feed and if you want a calm set of eyes and a clear plan, I can help 🌿
