JOGGERS AND RUNNERS!
Did you know that jogging and running increases pressure on the heels of the feet?
This increased pressure can result in cracks and splits if the skin is dehydrated and not able to stretch under pressure. In addition calluses will form as the body tries to protect delicate underlying tissue.
The heels have very few oil glands making them prone to dryness. Regular moisture application is important and so is wearing proper fitting shoes for the occasion.
Not only can cracks and splits become painful but they leave an opening for bacteria to enter and cause infection.
Wearing well-fitting shoes with good cushioning is crucial to reduce the impact also applying a moisture balm daily to hydrate the skin.
Other conditions that may evolve are stress fractures, plantar fascitis, blisters and shin splints, to name a few.
If concerned about dryness, cracks or splits, see your Foot Health Professional, who will address your foot problems and give preventative advice.
