❤️ INTUITIVE MOVEMENT: for me this is not thinking about what I should do but moving in a way that feels good for my body.
I move the parts of me that want to move, rather than force the body into shapes that feel restricted or guarded.
I do a lot of this movement, especially before weight training when I’m “checking in” to see how I’m feeling in my whole body, before committing to lifting heavy weights. Sometimes I discover that I don’t in fact feel like training after all!!
Listening into the body… notice your rhythms, internal landscape and signals from within… that way you will work with your body rather than against it ❤️🤍❤️

🙌🏻💪🏻 confidence is growing in the 20kg Turkish Get up 💪🏻🙌🏻
Slow and steady works best for me:
⚡️4 or 5 short sessions a week,
⚡️progressive overload without fatiguing,
⚡️being able to breathe calmly (or recover my breath before continuing),
⚡️time in between sets to move and shake off,
⚡️listening to my body before I start training (and during) for any signs or messages that things need to change / aren’t quite right,
⚡️making sure I’m enjoying myself and not training because of guilt or ‘shoulds’
Love and strength,
Lou xx

🖤 Trauma-informed somatic work for children and young people 🖤
Today, our focus was on creativity, having-a-go, team work and having fun!
We always take the time to check-in first - to try and notice our body, our thoughts and our feelings. Today was a “I don’t know” day and that is ok!
Sometimes we don’t always know what is going on in our inner and outer worlds. But if we can find something joyful that helps us to better connect to ourselves, then we’re on the way!

Hello! My name is Lou and I am a trauma-informed somatic teacher and strength coach. This is a piccie of me in my beautiful studio in Kendal where I welcome students of my classes and my 1:1 clients.
I support people (adults and young people) who are managing trauma and other life challenges:
I work collaboratively with folk who are looking for a “whole body” (somatic) approach to supporting them on their journey towards healing… bringing together their physical, emotional, mental, instinctive, spiritual etc parts…
Together we create a personalised “toolbox of INNER and OUTER resources” to support themselves better.
This could be through:
~ movement,
~ breathwork,
~ strength and heavy weight training,
~ guided meditation,
~ mindfulness practices,
~ guided relaxation,
~ focussed listening
~ psycho-education
~ time to talk
~ games
~ creativity (art/music)
Some of my week is taken up with coaching women in body and heavy weight training and I also do a lot of community work with Dr Cath Munro promoting / supporting women’s wellbeing in Kendal, the South Lakes and the wider Cumbria community.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my youngest son and my partner, renovating our house, walking our dogs, spending time with friends, training and eating cake 🖤
Feel free to get in touch with any questions or if you’d like to work together; I’d love to hear from you 🖤

🖤 trauma-informed somatics for children and young people 🖤
It is always such an honour to be trusted with supporting your young folk through their worries and challenges.
The intention in our sessions is no different to those with my adults - how to feel safe enough that we can start to notice what is going on in our whole body; and what ‘tools’ do we have to support ourselves in times of need?
In this session, we worked with colour, texture, favourite animals, sorting into groups, the warmth of a hot water bottle and the smells of essential oils - lovely 🥰

🖤 R E S T L E S S B O D Y
When you’re wired but tired…
You need to move but don’t have a huge amount of energy
We had a great session today - really listening to what the body needed with no pressure to ‘succeed’ and with no expected outcomes.
Smiles by the end of the session really said it all 🖤

🖤 B E I N G V U L N E R A B L E feels uncomfortable. I get it, because I have felt (and still feel) it too.
Many of us would ace the exam on “looking after / supporting others” but we’d likely fail the exam on “looking after myself”!
It can feel like we are being selfish when we spend time noticing and nurturing our own needs and it can feel very vulnerable to open yourself up to someone else:
🖤 what if they don’t believe me?
🖤 what if they try to minimise how I really feel?
🖤 what if I can’t find the exact words to explain how I’m truly feeling?
🖤 what if they can’t actually help me?
There are no certainties and that’s scary BUT if we can just try, have a go, tiptoe towards something - rather than do nothing - then we will discover something new (whether we like the outcome or not!)

My name is Lou Curry; I am a mum to two boys and a trained primary school teacher.
I started Evolve Yoga Cumbria because I want to share my passion for yoga with every ‘body’; no matter their age, religion, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, body shape, social background etc....
Yoga is about listening to your body and working at whatever level is right for you, on any given day - finding the balance between challenging yourself and being loving towards yourself and, connecting to the innate power and beauty of your own body and mind.
A yoga practice teaches us to mindfully move and connect with our breath, which leads us to be mindful and present in our daily tasks. It teaches us the freedom to be still and it connects us, one to another.
The ‘Mindful Movement’ adult class is for all ages/abilities and beginners are most welcome. We focus on creating stillness in slow, longer-held postures which gently stretch the body, and improve flexibility and joint mobility. We learn how to find alignment in poses; incorporate some basic breathing techniques and build strength slowly.
The ‘Mindful Flow‘ adult class is for those with previous yoga experience. The focus is on synchronising the movements of the body with the flow of breath, including options to modify and deepen your poses. An energising and joyful practice which will nurture body, mind and soul.
The ‘Mindful Strengthen and Stretch’ adult class is for all abilities and beginners are most welcome. In this class, we will break down postures into their individual parts and focus on making sure we are aligned to suit the functional needs of our own unique bodies. Through this, we will carefully build strength and balance. We will also ensure to gently extend through the body and finish with a relaxation.
My children’s yoga classes are inclusive and tremendous fun; weaving together yoga, creativity, playfulness and mindfulness into one. They include yoga poses, music, breathing exercises, relaxation, partner poses and cooperative games. The aim is to empower children, teens and young people to develop a deeper sense of body awareness, strength, flexibility, co-ordination, self exploration, respect and interpersonal skills.
I always include pranayama (breath work), meditation and relaxation in all my classes. By the end of each class, I hope that you / your child, will feel more open and refreshed, energised and relaxed, peaceful and positive.
