Our clients and staff had a lovely Valentine’s Day, sharing a few simple moments together 🌹

Carers Angie and Thai were out delivering roses and smiles to their clients, and our Extra Care teams were doing the same.

Our Care Supervisor, Leona, recently spent time back on the floor, supporting Caregivers and spending time with the people they care for.

It was a lovely afternoon all round. Blue enjoyed having her nails painted by Dawn, who took real care and time to make it a calm, enjoyable experience 💅

There were plenty laughs too, as Kelly, Kayleigh and the person they support had a friendly competition to see who could pull the worst face on camera!

Back-to-the-floor time helps us stay close to everyday care, understand what’s working, and make sure people feel supported, comfortable and at ease 💙

Our recent games session at Knowle and Dorridge Memory Cafe played out beautifully! 🎲

There was plenty of focus, friendly competition, and lots of laughter as everyone got involved. Games like chess and Connect 4 can support concentration, problem-solving, and social connection for people living with memory loss 🤍

A big thank you to Sally from the Alzheimer's Society for joining us and supporting the group. It’s always appreciated. 💙

We run Memory Cafés at three locations across Solihull and Leamington, so families can choose the one that works best for them:

📍 Knowle & Dorridge – Tuesdays, 10.30am–12.30pm, Dorridge Methodist Church

📍 Leamington Spa & Kenilworth – Tuesdays, 10.00am–12.00pm, Cubbington Village Hall

📍 Solihull – Thursdays, 10.30am–12.30pm, Solihull Indoor Bowls Club

All of our Memory Cafés are open to everyone. New faces are always welcome. 😊

Meet Faye 👋

She’s one of our Solihull Caregivers, and when she joined us, she was completely new to care. We asked Faye to share what inspired her to take that step, and what it’s really been like starting out in a role she’d never done before.

"I had never worked in care before joining Unique Senior Care, but the experience of watching how my elderly nan was supported inspired me to take this path. Being close to her journey — through both the good days and the difficult ones — showed me just how much thoughtful, compassionate care can mean, not only to the person receiving it but to their whole family.

Seeing the difference that genuine kindness, patience, and understanding made for my nan helped me realise how important it is to have Caregivers who truly care. That experience gave me the confidence to step into a completely new role, even without a background in care.

Since becoming a Caregiver, I’ve learned how meaningful it is to support someone with their daily needs, whether that’s offering a listening ear, helping with personal care, or encouraging independence. The trust that grows, the small moments of progress, and the comfort people feel remind me every day why I chose this work.

My hope is that everyone I support feels valued, respected, and understood — and that the care I give brings the same reassurance and kindness that meant so much to my nan." — Faye, Caregiver

As part of our Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Training, we’re working with co-trainers with lived experience to support learning that is grounded in real life 🤝

Sam is one of our co-trainers and an Expert with Lived Experience. During the training, Sam shared what good communication looks like from his perspective, what helps him feel understood, and what can make situations more difficult when those needs are missed 🗣️

His insight encouraged Caregivers to reflect on their everyday practice and think carefully about how language, tone and clarity can shape someone’s experience of care 💭

Lived experience sits at the heart of this training, and we’re grateful to Sam for sharing his knowledge so openly and thoughtfully 💙

Liz has been supporting Josie at Queensway since August and has built a lovely relationship through a shared love of jigsaw puzzles 🧩

Whenever Liz comes across a good puzzle, she makes sure Josie gets a turn too. It’s a small thing, but it’s become an important part of their time together 🤍

Moments like these remind us how shared interests can help build trust, connection, and comfort in everyday care 🌱

We’re delivering Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Training to our Caregivers, led by our Learning and Development Manager, Jo Cleary, and delivered in partnership with co-trainers with lived experience 👏

The Oliver McGowan Training is the government’s recommended learning disability and autism training for health and social care staff. Tier 2 focuses on understanding, communication, and the real-life impact of care decisions for autistic people and people with a learning disability 🧠

We’ve worked with the national Oliver McGowan team and local providers so we’re approved to run this important training. This means our Caregivers are learning directly from people with lived experience, alongside structured and evidence-based teaching 🤝

This approach supports safer, more respectful care and helps Caregivers feel more confident when supporting people with different communication needs 💙

As we move into February, we’re marking Dignity in Action Month 🤍

Caregiver Jamal shared what dignity means to him:

“Dignity for me really just means having the patience to meet someone where they are and to respect their boundaries when met, to always be humble.” 💬

For Jamal, dignity is about helping people feel equal and respected, whatever their circumstances.

Dignity isn’t just a feeling. It’s something we practise every day through our actions 🤝

Jamal highlights three simple ways to put dignity into action:
✅ Acceptance of identity.
✅ Safety.
✅ Acknowledgement.

This month, we’re encouraging everyone to look for the hidden boundaries others may have and to honour them, even when they’re not spoken 🫶

Earlier this week, our Co-Founder and Director, Phil, and Operations Director, Helena, attended the Nourish Data & AI Conference at Bletchley Park 🧠📊

The day focused on how data and emerging AI tools are supporting better decisions, stronger outcomes and more person-centred care, using practical, real-world examples from across social care.

One message came through clearly 👇
Data and AI are not about replacing the human touch. They are about strengthening it.

As we shape our own roadmap, these tools will help us:
• Improve quality and safety through better insight and early warning signs 🔍
• Reduce admin so teams can spend more time on meaningful care ⏱️
• Turn real-time data into action and keep care personal and responsive ❤️

Thank you to the Nourish team for a thoughtful and forward-thinking day 🙌

Begin your journey in care - we’ll teach you everything you need to know.

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. Thai joined us with just one month of care experience and says the training gave her the confidence to feel ready to work as a Caregiver 🏠🧡

Two years on, Thai brings her background as a trained Psychologist into her role every day. She’s always wanted to work with people, and as she says, you can really see the difference you make in someone’s day.

If you’re thinking about a role in care and want proper training, ongoing support, and work that feels meaningful, we’d love to hear from you 👇

A big well done to Jenny, our Care Supervisor in Solihull, who has been named January's Learner of the Month for her commitment to learning and doing things properly 👏📘

Jenny was recognised for her work transferring clients to a new care planning system. Alongside learning the system, she took time to really understand each person’s needs, resulting in clear, high-quality care plans that support safe, consistent care 🧡

This is a great example of the kind of Care Supervisors we’re proud to have. People who take ownership, care about the details, and put quality first.

Thinking about a role in care where learning is valued and support is ongoing? This is what that can look like ✨

People, above all else

Founded on personal experience

Unique Senior Care was founded in 2011, by Philip Wright-Howarth and Philip Maundrill. Both have, at some point, been responsible for a loved one in need of care. At Unique Senior Care we therefore have an intimate understanding of what quality care should look like, and the peace of mind this brings to family members, as well as the person being cared for. This has been a key driver throughout the business’ history and continues to underpin all aspects of the work we do.

What makes us Unique?

It is without doubt the people we care for, our staff and the quality of the services we provide. Every member of our team shares the same ethos of putting ‘People, above all else’. We believe that by supporting older people to remain in their own home, we can enable them to live more fulfilling lives, and our care is always tailored to meet the individual needs of our clients. Families will have the peace of mind that their loved ones are in excellent hands. As a result, we have built a reputation as a care company that specialises in one thing: people.
