✨ The Space Between Christmas & New Year ✨

For many people, this week can feel surprisingly hard.

The decorations are still up, but the excitement has faded.
The routine is gone.
Socialising can feel relentless — or painfully quiet.
Expectations to feel grateful, happy, or “ready for a fresh start” can weigh heavy.

If you’re struggling right now, you’re not alone.

This in-between time can bring up loneliness, grief, anxiety, exhaustion, or a sense of being ungrounded. For those who have experienced loss, the contrast between what was and what is can feel particularly sharp.

It’s okay if you don’t feel festive anymore.
It’s okay if you’re relieved it’s nearly over.
It’s okay if you’re just trying to get through each day.

You don’t need to have plans.
You don’t need to feel hopeful yet.
You don’t need to “use this time wisely.”

Be gentle with yourself. Small routines, quiet moments, and lowered expectations are enough for now.

If this season is feeling heavy and you’d like support, you don’t have to carry it on your own 💙

Depression doesn’t always look like sadness.
Sometimes it looks like exhaustion.
Numbness.
Going through the motions while feeling disconnected from everything around you.

At this time of year, when the world tells us we should feel happy, depression can feel even heavier — and even lonelier.

If you’re struggling, please know this:
You are not weak.
You are not failing.
And you are not alone.

Support can help you make sense of what you’re feeling, gently reconnect with yourself, and find ways to cope — at your own pace, in a safe and non-judgemental space.

Christmas can be an especially hard time when you’re grieving.

While the world feels louder, brighter and full of expectation, your heart may feel heavy, quiet, or painfully aware of who is missing. Grief doesn’t take a break for Christmas – and it doesn’t follow a timetable.

You might be:
• Missing someone deeply
• Grieving the life you once had
• Feeling pressure to “be okay” for others
• Struggling with traditions that now feel painful

If this is you, please know this: there is no right way to grieve at Christmas.
It’s okay to join in a little, a lot, or not at all.
It’s okay to feel moments of joy alongside sadness.
It’s okay to protect your energy and do what feels manageable.

Be gentle with yourself. Grief is love with nowhere to go, and at this time of year it can feel even more raw.

If you’re finding this season overwhelming, you don’t have to carry it alone. Support is available, and you deserve care too.

✨ Therapists Are Human Too ✨

I shared a post yesterday about being kind to yourself at Christmas… and a few of my family gently reminded me that I need to take my own advice.
They’re right. I have a habit of over-committing, trying to be everywhere for everyone – and sometimes forgetting that I’m human too.

I think it’s important to say this out loud:
Therapists don’t float through life with perfect balance and boundaries. We’re learning, growing, practising and re-practising the same strategies we share with you.

We use grounding.
We pause and breathe.
We work on saying “no” without guilt.
We remind ourselves it’s okay to rest.
And sometimes… we forget, and need a nudge just like everyone else.

If you’re trying your best this Christmas, even if it’s messy or imperfect, you’re in good company.
Be gentle with yourself. I’m working on doing the very same. 💙✨
