Final training days with this current group.

We started this morning working with some less familiar mallets - learning when something has a place in their own sound setup, when it doesn’t, and how to get the best from it if it does.

Skill isn’t about having more tools, it’s about knowing when and why we use them 💫

‘Are all gongs the same?’

I asked this question to the practitioners in class today.
And the answer is simple - no.
But a one-word answer isn’t enough.

If someone has only ever worked with one gong, it’s easy for them to assume they’re all broadly similar.

They’re not.

There were over 25 gongs in the studio today for the practitioners to work with - they were learning the differences between them, understanding their qualities, and how each one asks to be played.

This included:
Nickel silver Paiste
Broder Oetken gongs
Paiste Bronze gongs
Feng/wind gongs
Stainless steel Grotta Sonora
Thai tuned gongs
Chau gongs

Different alloys.
Different responses.

These gongs don’t just sound different.
How you play them and how you pair them with other instruments in the session - it all changes.

This is why I don’t believe learning on one type of gong - or one style - is enough if someone wants to become a skilled, competent, confident, all-rounded gong practitioner.

It’s also why I keep class sizes very small, to maximise time spend on the instruments.
This is how I’ve always taught my practitioner trainings.

It gives each person the space to discover what genuinely suits them - whether that’s for personal practice, sharing sound with others, or integrating sound into an existing modality.

Access to this level of equipment, comparison, and guidance isn’t available anywhere else in Scotland.
There is a responsibly that shouldn’t be taken lightly when teaching these instruments and that takes time, experience and understanding.

So the answer is still no - they’re not all the same 💫

Not all sound therapy training is the same.
And it shouldn’t be.

Sound is powerful. Instruments are powerful.
But owning instruments - or completing a short course - doesn’t automatically mean someone knows how to work with them well.

My Sound Practitioners Course is built for people who want depth, skill, and confidence that comes from experience, not from rushing.

You don’t need any prior musical training to take this course.
Curiosity, openness, and a genuine interest in sound and its effects are enough.

This is a 50+ hour, in-person training, taught in very small groups, where time is taken to truly understand sound - not just use it.

Students train with a wide range of instruments, including Himalayan bowls, crystal bowls, and an extensive selection of gongs of different sizes, alloys, and makers.
This isn’t about learning one way - it’s about discovering what actually suits you.

Real instruments.
Real listening.
Real comparison.

Because gongs are unique.
Bowls are unique.
And practitioners are unique.

I have been working with sound and bowls in my own personal and professional practice for over 20 years, and this course is designed to teach what is often missing from modern training:

• how to listen before you play
• how to choose instruments that genuinely suit you
• how sound is experienced in the body - not just understood conceptually
• how to work responsibly and ethically with people, not perform for them...and so much more!

The course is structured to meet you where you are, building week by week, layer by layer.
By the end, students aren’t copying a format - they understand their own sound and how to work with it.

As part of the training, students also receive one full year of mentorship with me.
That support continues long after the final weekend, because real learning doesn’t stop when a course ends.

I was honoured this year to receive a CMA Global Award for my work within the therapeutic sound industry, I was nominated by past students and peers.
That recognition reflects what matters most to me: practitioners leaving my training confident, capable, and clear about what they are - and are not - offering.

This course is fully CMA accredited and offers access to ongoing CPD days, advanced training, and events with myself and some of the most respected names in the industry.

This course is not for everyone.

It is for people who:
• value skill over trends
• want quality time and instruction with instruments, not just certification
• are willing to learn properly
• want their work to last

The next group begins in January.
This will be the last time the course is offered at its current price, and there are no plans to run it again until possibly late autumn.

If you’re looking for training that supports 1–1 work, group sessions, integration into an existing practice, or purely for personal exploration, and you want to be guided not just in what to buy - but also what you don’t need - this may be the right place to begin.

A large number of people have contacted me about the latest newsletter, and even more have singed up for future mailings - thank you! ❤
I thought I would share the latest newsletter here for the people who didn't get the chance to read it.

For those who don't know me well - in the past I've not been big on sharing on social media, it doesn't come naturally to me to post pictures/videos etc, however I have made a commitment to change that. My aim is to share more of what I do and why I do it in 2026. If there's something that interests you within the world of therapeutic sound, let me know.

Again, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read, reply, or reach out. It’s been very much appreciated 💫

As each year draws to a close, I always give myself time to pause and properly acknowledge what has unfolded. I’ve never been very good at rushed reflections or neat summaries, and this year deserves more care than that. So this is not a 'best bits' list, but a moment to stand still, look back and...

I’m often asked what different instruments actually sound like, so I’ll be sharing more of these short sound samples here.

These sweet little bowls are handmade in England - 2 in bronze and one in nickel silver.

If there’s an instrument you’re curious about, let me know 💫🎶

In the studio this week I’ve been exploring harmonics between some of my Himalayan bowls and my new nickel silver and bronze bowls, creating some really beautiful soundscapes.
I’m still working on capturing the sounds so I can share more on here 💫

Two new Oetken 32” symphonic gongs arrived yesterday - both are absolutely beautiful.

If you’ve ever been in my company, you’ll know how passionate I can become about sound. One of the things I love most about this work is how every gong has its own voice. These 2 are almost identical and when I measured them yesterday, they are exactly 1 Hz apart.

When played together they create a really cool interference pattern called beats, which sounds like a slow, breathing pulse. In my classes, I describe it as the gentle ‘wahh-wahh’ sound you hear when 2 tones sit very close together. It’s a great sound to explore.

One of my current gong practitioners is coming later this week to choose her first gong and she’ll have the opportunity to play both, side by side, to find the one that truly speaks to her. Thanks to Broder and Ines at , I’m delighted to now offer this service - practitioners are able to take their time to try, listen and feel before making such a meaningful investment.

Every instrument becomes part of the wider story of how we learn, listen, and grow as practitioners, and these 2 gongs are another part of the learning and sharing process - I love it!

Three more gongs are arriving today and I can’t wait to meet them! 💫

CMA Accredited Sound Practitioners Course
Final spaces for the 2026 intakes

Award-Winning • Practitioner-Focused • Small Classes

If you’ve been searching for sound training that can take you beyond just learning the basic techniques, but for training that truly supports you in becoming a confident, grounded practitioner, this could be what you are searching for.

Across 20 immersive weeks, you’ll receive more than 50 hours of hands-on teaching in a group of no more than three people.

This depth allows you to really connect with the instruments, understand sound in practice, and shape an approach that feels authentic and unique to you.

In this course we focus on:
• Singing bowls, Himalayan and crystal, as a core instrument
• Gong work - taught from the highest standard here in Scotland
• Additional instruments for sound baths and 1-1 sessions
• Developing your ear, your presence and your confidence
• Building a practice rooted in clarity, integrity and real skill

Each training day runs 10am-4pm, giving you space to explore, integrate and refine without rushing.

You’ll also receive a full year of mentorship starting the day you begin so your support continues long after the official training weekends end.

I’m committed to raising the standards of sound therapy in Scotland, and these small, practitioner-focused trainings are one of the ways I do that. I am honoured to receive the CMA Global Award for Inspirational Teacher in Complementary Education, as well as being a finalist for Training School of the Year, these nominations came from past practitioners, industry peers and from those I’ve mentored.

If you feel called to sound work - not as a label, but as a practice - please reach out for full details.

Midweek intake:
Starts Tuesday 27th January 2026
(2 spaces available)

At the start of the year I made a few commitments to myself, one of them being to simply attend more sound sessions.
Over the past 11 months I’ve attended more than 20 sound baths, not to observe or analyse, but to rest, listen, and receive.

I wanted to give myself time just to be in the sound, and also to show support to other practitioners - including those who approach this work differently or come from different schools of thought. At the end of the day, we all share the same love for sound, and the idea of competition within this industry is something I don’t resonate with at all.

This morning I was really looking forward to catching up again with Carole and it was exactly what I needed. Carole holds the space with such warmth and ease, nothing forced, no gimmicks, just therapeutic sound delivered with care and intention. The gongs sang beautifully, gently supported by bowls, creating a deeply nourishing and restorative experience.

Thank you, Carole, for your beautiful offering 💫
