Some of you may well have heard me sing the praises of castor oil during your appointment, but I wanted to share why I love it so much as its even more relevant to me at the minute whilst my hand is healing from its surgery.
Castor oil is amazing at helping to reduce scar tissue. The reason for this is castor oil is high in a monounsaturated fat called ricinoleic acid, it helps to stimulate tissue regrowth, creates a moist environment to help scars heal faster and also reduces the build up of dead skin cells that can sometimes interfere with a scars healing process.
Because of the fatty acids it deeply moisturises the skin so can help soften adhesions from old or new scars.
Now it's not a miracle cure, but it can definitely help reduce scars and adhesions if used regularly. I have been using it on my wound ever since my stitches came out and its made a huge difference to how it feels and looks.
I couldn't take a picture of what my scar looked liked when she took the stitches out as she steri stripped it as the surface had not fully knitted together. So below is a picture of what it looked like the day my stitches where due out, 2 days after removal, 4 days after removal and today ( which is 5 days after stitch removal)
Definitely invest in some castor oil if you have scars or even stretch marks as it really can help.
