How I help people start their Monday morning might affect the rest of their day,
so I choose to show up with positivity, energy, and a smile.

When my alarm goes off at 5:30am on a Monday morning for a 6am online fitness class, what’s my first thought? What might yours be?

Mine: “Do I really need to do this?” Then I remember I’m taking the class 😂

I work with busy women showing up for themselves before work. My choice and how I show up sets the tone for everything else.

When did we stop jumping in puddles?

This morning, I was out walking my dog Dixie, and there were puddles everywhere.

If you’re anything like me they’re a bit of a magnet so I started puddling in them for Dixie to have fun.

Then I wondered… when did we decide fun had an age limit?
When did “being responsible” start meaning “don’t get your shoes wet”?

So I started having real fun, not just for her but for me too! I jumped in the puddles and Dixie approved.

It turns out joy doesn’t require a vacation, a promotion, or a milestone, sometimes it just needs permission.

Here’s your reminder: it’s okay to play.

When I became a headteacher 12 years ago, I didn’t start with a big plan.

I changed the shoes.

I cared deeply about children’s wellbeing and kept noticing the same thing: worry about scuffed shoes, matching plimsolls, and feet that couldn’t move freely.

So I made one small change.

Trainers of any kind, so children could run, climb, jump and move without fear.

Some parents were confused.
Shiny black shoes felt familiar, safe and traditional.

For me, it wasn’t about how things looked. It was about how children felt in their bodies every day.

Yesterday, driving over the Queensferry Crossing, I noticed the Forth Road Bridge beside it, and the rail bridge behind that. Three bridges. Three generations. All still carrying people forward.

It felt like a perfect metaphor for wellbeing and leadership. We’re always moving on, often without noticing what supports us, what shaped us, or what we’re building for others.
