When life gets overwhelming and stress takes its toll, journalling often gets pushed to the bottom of our to-do list. However, there are ways to anticipate and manage anxiety triggers, reducing their impact on our well-being over time.

While journalling isn't a magical solution, it can break the cycle of rumination that worsens anxiety symptoms. Investing just 15 minutes a day in self-care can make a significant difference.

To begin, create a tranquil setting. Brew a cup of your favourite calming teaβ€”perhaps one with rooibos or chamomileβ€”and savour the flavour, paying attention to its nuances.

Next, set the right ambiance. Either embrace the sounds around you, focusing on each one, or curate a calming playlist exclusively for this journalling routine.

Find a comfortable spot, take a few deep breaths, and centre yourself. As you inhale, feel your stomach rise, allowing your lungs to expand. As you exhale, release any tension you may be holding.

Now, it's time to put pen to paper. Write freely, expressing whatever thoughts are on your mind. Don't overthink itβ€”simply let your thoughts flow. Consider jotting down a few positive experiences from the past few days or expressing gratitude for even the smallest things. You could even add a small goal or task you'd like to accomplish.
