A heart attack is an “attack” on the heart muscle, a stroke is an “attack” of the brain. For every minute that a stroke goes untreated, brain cells die. It is therefore TIME CRITICAL and people must act fast. This is where the acronym BEFAST comes in…..A quick check, do you or someone you are with have one or more of these symptoms?

B = Balance
Is there a sudden loss of balance and or coordination/dizziness that is otherwise unexplained. This may be accompanied by a headache.

E = Eyes
Are there changes in vision, blurred or double vision.

F = Face
Is the face drooping on one side? Ask the person to smile and look for symmetry.

A = Arms
Weakness in the arms or legs – ask the person to hold their arms up to shoulder height and keep them there.

S = Speech
Is there new difficulty in speaking? Could be jumbled up words, jibberish words, not able to speak or not understanding/following instruction.

T = Time

Raising awareness for World Stroke Day 29th October 2025…..
We understand that navigating life after stroke can be difficult, especially when discharged from hospital. Some people feel “abandoned” and “worried” that their current ability is the best they can be. This support group is free of charge and exclusive for people with FND and aims to create a safe environment for people to discuss their experiences with FND and connect with others.
