Did you know?
Homeopathy comes from two Greek words: hómoios (similar) and páthos (suffering).
So it literally means similar suffering — the principle of like cures like.
Hippocrates, known as the Father of Medicine and source of the Hippocratic Oath, spoke of two ways of healing: by opposites and by similars. He also believed in treating the whole person, not just the disease.
The Hippocratic Oath, first written around 400 BCE, is one of the oldest codes of medical ethics. Modern versions still guide new doctors today, with a focus on:
Do no harm (non-maleficence)
Act in the patient’s best interest (beneficence)
Respect confidentiality
Treat patients with compassion and dignity
Commit to lifelong learning
Homeopathy also follows these principles. At its core is “do no harm” — no toxic medicines, no added symptoms or side effects, and no extra drugs to counter the harm caused by other treatments. Instead, it works gently with the body’s natural healing capacity.
