📆 What if the problem isn’t you, but the parenting myths you have learnt? Can we all make a pact to leave these behind in 2025?

😩 You’ve probably felt the pressure to be the ‘perfect parent.’ The constant advice from all angles and the endless comparisons. Maybe you feel like there’s a certain way you’re supposed to parent but that just doesn’t work for your family?

💖 In case you needed a reminder today, parenting is messy, and it can be exhausting. You don’t have to do it all alone, you don’t have to hide your struggles, and your challenges aren’t a reflection of your worth.

👉🏻 If any of this resonates, hit the like button and make sure you’re following me in 2026 to leave these myths behind! I am here to help you feel supported and more confident in your parenting journey.

✅ You may have seen the recent ADHD task force report and been glad to see many of the proposed changes. Increased access, shorter waits, need based support, they’re all a big yes from me. However, I’m concerned about some of the recommendations, including the move toward GP-led ADHD assessments. To be clear, I think GPs are very skilled professionals, but they are stretched to their limits right now!

👉🏻 You deserve an assessment that has depth and involves specialist clinical expertise, not speed alone. ADHD diagnosis is not done in a 10 minute appointment or via a blood test. It involves understanding your full developmental and mental health needs.

📍 If you’re stuck on a waiting list, not sure where to turn next, or feel like you’ve been misunderstood by professionals before, get in touch today for a FREE consultation to see how I can support you.

🛋️ Rest IS productive. Read that again…Am I writing this for my own benefit trying to sign off all my work and spread the Christmas cheer? Maybe! But I hope it will help you too

😴 Somewhere along the way, we’ve been told that being exhausted and being a good person are the same thing. That our worth is measured by how much we do, and our financial contribution to society. That stopping to rest means we’re lazy or not doing enough. And NONE of that is true.

✋ Rest isn’t just necessary, it’s productive. By resting you’re giving yourself the opportunity to improve your memory, your patience, and your emotion regulation skills.

Give me some inspo, what’s the one way you’ll rest this week, without guilt? ⬇️

🧠 Perhaps the busiest time of year as parents is upon us. And as a parent and you’re feeling STRESSED. You feel like everyone else is coping with life so much easier and better than you are. You’re responding in ways that you aren’t used to: who is this angry, irritable person? Maybe you feel less resilient than the person you were before parenthood?

👉🏻 It can be helpful to take a moment to reflect on your coping strategies before becoming a parent. When you were stressed did you exercise, sleep, drink, game, spend money, party, paint? It’s really normal to distract and dissociate when we’re stressed. However, when we become parents, there is often much less time to engage in these coping mechanisms. So that means even though you’re dealing with a lot more stress, your body and brain aren’t sure how to manage this anymore.

❓ If you’re struggling with feeling more anxious, angry, sad or irritable than you did before, finding ways to exist with feelings can be really helpful. You can find the time to engage in the coping behaviours you did before, or you can find new ones that fit in with your life as it is now. And neither of those options are right, wrong, or better than the other.

📱 Save this post for next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, and take a minute to reflect on the coping mechanisms you do have to help you through. If you want support on your parenting journey in 2026, get in touch today!

👉🏻 You may have heard that many ICBs* across England are pausing RTC** assessments until the next financial year. If this affects you or your child, I know how frustrated and despairing you’ll feel right now after having already spent months to years waiting. Please know you are not alone.

😞 This pause on assessments has real consequences for who continue to face blocks in accessing support. While understanding the reasons behind these pauses won’t make anything better, I know for some people that knowing why helps a little.

📍Right now it’s really important that we all come together to make sure we don’t continue to see these changes year after year. Please share this post with others, write to your ICB, your MP, and NHS England, if you are able to.

💭 I saw a post in a Facebook group recently with a REALLY outdated study linked about ADHD and the brain. Trust me when I say I really understand how hard it is to understand all the brain stuff, and the complex research papers. I’m going to do my best in this series to explain as easily as I can, about ADHD and the brain.

🧠 For years, all of the difficulties that come with being an ADHD’er were blamed on one thing: dopamine. Research has shown us that ADHD involves whole-brain chemistry. It isn’t just about a chemical imbalance, it’s about how brain cells communicate and how those connections shape focus, energy, and emotion. The science helps us to understand why ADHD feels so complex, and why support needs to be holistic.

📍Save this for next time you’re struggling to explain adhd brain differences to someone; and follow for more in this series!

💸 Public funding feels like a big topic after the recent budget announcements. Many people may think cutting funding for autism and ADHD care helps to protect funding, but the opposite is true. When people wait years for support, the short‑term savings have a huge long‑term cost.

😞 In my work, I see first hand the impact of undiagnosed and unsupported neurodivergence: people in mental health crisis, adults self medicating with alcohol, parents unable to work, children so burnt out they can’t attend school, families collapsing due to no support. Untreated ADHD alone costs us around £17 billion a year in the UK. What we’re seeing with longer waiting lists, services being cut further, and systemic neglect is going to have a huge long term cost to everyone, and I’m not just talking money here!

📍Share this post with anyone who might have their doubts about why specialist support is critical.

🧠 Your child’s brain forms over ONE MILLION new neural connections every second in the first few years of life! Many of those connections are shaped by everyday moments you share together. And literacy plays a central role in developing emotional literacy, social skills, and an understanding of who we are in the world. You’re laying the foundations for the future. That can feel like a lot of pressure, right?

✨ We know that as a parent, you worry a lot about whether you’re doing enough. You’re not sure which sources of information to trust. And the advice you’re getting just doesn’t fit into busy family life.

📆 Thats’s why Dr Lucy & UK Reads are working together. Join us for a FREE online workshop “The Brain on Books: How Reading Fuels Development and Growth” on 15th December at 6:30pm. You’ll leave with a better understanding how how reading shapes young minds and practical tools!

🙋🏼‍♂️ Today is international Men’s day. I’ve seen barely anyone speaking about this. Maybe it’s my algorithm. Men’s mental health isn’t just a “men’s issue”, it is everyone’s issue. My work with dad’s, and the research, shows me that the wellbeing of dads shapes families, relationships, workplaces, and communities. Men are less likely to ask for help. International Men’s Day is a reminder to for us all to notice the pressures men carry every day.

🧠 Many men grow up learning that showing feelings is weakness, or despite being told to ask for help, reinforcing that they don’t receive this when they do speak up. We know that sadly silence can have serious consequences!

➡️ Share this post with a dad you know would benefit from validation and compassion. Small acts of noticing can break cycles of silence!
