Mother’s Day can bring a bittersweet mix of love, gratitude and longing if your mum who is no longer here.

Today, be gentle on yourself and take the time to remember her in the stories you tell, the lessons she gave you and the love that continues. 🤍

You're not alone.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

Working within the wedding and funeral industries means I have the privilege of being surrounded by some truly incredible women.

🌿 Women who support families through grief with compassion and dignity.

💗 Women who help create beautiful wedding days filled with love and joy.

Women who run businesses, lift one another up, work incredibly hard behind the scenes and show up with kindness and professionalism every single day.

Today I’m celebrating all of those women - the ones I work alongside, the ones I learn from and the ones who inspire me.

Your strength, empathy and dedication make such a difference in the moments that matter most in people’s lives.

🥂 Here’s to strong women.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

An important change has just taken place in the UK funeral world! 👏

For the first time in more than 100 years, a new method of handling the dead has been formally legalised in the UK. On 2 March, Scotland approved regulations allowing water cremation, also known as aquamation or alkaline hydrolysis.

If you’re not familiar with it, water cremation is a process that speeds up the natural breakdown of the body. It uses water, gentle heat and an alkaline solution to reduce the body over several hours, leaving only bone. These remains are then processed into a fine white powder, similar to cremation ashes, which can then be returned to the family.

Many people see it as a more environmentally friendly option, as it produces no direct airborne emissions and doesn’t require a traditional coffin.

The process is already used in many parts of the world, including nearly 30 US states, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Even Archbishop Desmond Tutu chose water cremation for his funeral.

Right now, this change only applies in Scotland. However, the Law Commission in England and Wales is currently working on a framework that could eventually allow both water cremation and human composting (terramation) here too.

Funeral traditions do change over time and it will be interesting to see whether options like these become part of the choices families have in the future.

🤔 What are your thoughts on new, more environmentally focused funeral options?

I was delighted to see that my celebrant business has been included on the website of the lovely The Windmills Natural Green Burial in Northamptonshire where I have conducted several funeral ceremonies.

Natural burial grounds offer families a beautiful and peaceful setting for a very personal farewell, and it has always been an honour to work there supporting families as they say goodbye.

Thank you, Jo, for including me among the celebrants listed on your website.

Every funeral is unique because every life is unique.

I never take for granted the trust families place in me to tell their loved one’s story with warmth, dignity and authenticity. I always strive to do my very best, both for the person who has died and for those who are grieving.

Receiving words like these means more than I can say. Thank you 🤍

It was a privilege to officiate at the celebration of life for a lovely gentleman today: a man who adored his family, loved to travel, believed in giving back to the community, and was somewhat of an expert in NSU Quickly bikes.

When arranging a funeral, many people don’t realise they have a choice when it comes to who leads the ceremony.

You don’t have to go with the celebrant suggested by a funeral director - you’re free to choose someone who feels right for you and your family.

If you’re looking for an independent celebrant to create a personal, meaningful farewell, I’m always happy to have a gentle, no-pressure chat.

As the year comes to a close, I’m beginning to wind things down for Christmas and New Year.

However, I’m still here, keeping an eye on my messages and available if you need support or guidance.

Please feel free to reach out. 😊

🕊 Back in April, I had the privilege of being a part of a Mother's Day memorial service organised by the wonderful Chantal and Sue at Co-Op Funeralcare in Borehamwood.

🎄 Today, I was once again honoured to work alongside the staff of Borehamwood Funeralcare and some other fabulous guests including the Potters Bar Choral Society, this time taking part in their Christmas Memorial and Candle Lighting Service.

I'd like to share a part of my reading with you in the hope that it may help even one person find some comfort this Christmas... 'Whatever Christmas looks like for you this year is enough. If you need simple, choose simple. If you need quiet, take quiet. If you need to step out of the celebrations for a while, or entirely, that's not failing at Christmas; that's taking care of your heart.'

Wishing you a gentle Christmas. ✨️
