🎓 New Professional Training Opportunity: Intro to ISTDP – 2026 Intake

I’m excited to announce that ISTDP-North has two slots available for the 2026 Introductory “Pre-Core” training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).

This course offers mental health professionals — clinicians, therapists, counsellors, psychologists — a structured introduction to the theory and technique of ISTDP: a well-researched, evidence-based psychodynamic/attachment-informed model that addresses anxiety, defenses, and unconscious emotional processes. istdpnorth.com

Professor Allan Abbass and colleagues have recently published some meta-analysis results and review article about the evidence-base for ISTDP in the treatment of chronic pain. Their results suggest that ISTDP had better outcomes than CBT for the treatment of chronic pain patients.

Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) has been studied for a broad range of somatic symptom presentations including chronic pain. Drawn from two recent meta-analyses, data using ISTDP treatment for pain conditions was extracted and meta-analyzed.
