🧠Any thoughts?

The causes as you see can be related to many factors.

In 2018 there were suggestions that the rise in milk allergy cases was due to industry influence, a topic that continues to spark debate.

I'm really looking forward to presenting at the infant allergy conference in London on the 17th November and supporting education for health professionals on cows milk allergy.

Without these platforms we wouldn't be able to support our patients and share the most up to date research with professionals.
The feedback I have received in the past has been very humbling where GPs and paediatricians who do not work in the area of allergy have said it has helped them with diagnosis, prescribing and timely referrals.

What do you think?

⚠️This isn't going to change practice and the milk ladder is still how we reintroduction so do not worry but it just shows again how essential research is to allergy.

In the majority of cases (if not all) we need funding to do this. This study was funded by a company called Mead Johnson.

Have you seen my new milk ladder recipe book. The link is in my bio ⬆️

✨ Poor advice I hear far too often about cow’s milk allergy (CMA) ✨

I know most people can mean well — but with regards to food allergy the wrong advice can make feeding confusing, delay getting the right support and also be very dangerous!

If you’ve ever been told “a little won’t hurt” or “they’d have a rash if it was an allergy” — you’re definitely not alone.

I want parents to feel confident spotting the signs and getting the right help early on 💜

❓Any other comments people have made to you???

As I say in this video, when starting the ladder you can give 1/2 or 1/4 of the portion. Generally you should be advised how to start by your health team.

When to start the ladder? In clinic most of the little ones I look after are starting around 8-10 months old.

Remember when it comes to the ladder, all babies go at their own pace. 💜

📰Recent study I was able to comment on ➡️

We need more education in primary care for GPs, not only is it shown in this study but also evidenced in the UK National Allergy Strategy which I recently spoke about at the Infant Allergy Conference.

💜The UK National Allergy Strategy found that;
- Parents have an average of 5 visits to the GP before diagnosis of CMA

- 15% of parents had visited their GP 10 times!

- 43% of patients waiting more than 3 months for diagnosis
This is too long!

But it did also show that knowledge is improving with an increased number of parents feeling that their concerns were not disregarded due to 'over reacting'.

⬆️Allergy is increasing and we need more support and provision for allergy and it to be taken seriously at all stages of healthcare.

I recently started my MSc in Allergy as I want to be there, to support you all when it comes to food allergy and have the advanced knowledge to do so.

To make sure you feel listened to and treated fairly and help to get the support and correct diagnosis at the right time.

We have a great and knowledgeable Allergy community here so get in touch if you need support

A bit more info...and some key points.

A positive and negative control will also be used. This helps to measure the reaction. Positive control = histamine. Negative control = saline.

If your baby is positive to a food then a wheal will likely form. This wheal will be measured in mm.

It's important that the redness isn't measured, just the white hive that is formed.

The size of the wheal doesn't mean the reaction is worse/more severe.

A positive result will be a measurement over 5mm or 3mm more than the negative control.

Have you been advised on skin prick testing or have you had it, let me know below ⬇️
