It's not his first rodeo!

He knows how good he feels after it (well, after a couple of days 🤣)

When your son’s training for a charity boxing match… and his back’s “killing” him! 🥊

My son’s in the middle of training for a charity boxing match and came to me saying,

“Mum, my back’s killing me and when I throw left jabs, my shoulder kills too.”

Turns out, he had a lot of tension sitting in his right lower back, radiating up into his shoulder, something that’s common with repetitive training and overuse on one side of the body.

We started with an assisted back stretch and breathing techniques to help release tension through his torso and shoulders. Once his body began to soften, I got him onto the couch for a deep tissue sports massage, focusing on the lower back and shoulder to restore mobility and reduce pain.

His commentary during treatment was priceless 😅

🗣 “Your hands are like metal objects.”
🗣 "You’ve got Hulk arms.”
And at one point while I was working through a stubborn knot, he was literally tapping his feet saying:
“Go home, go home…” (Wizard of Oz style 🤣)

But after just 30 minutes, he stood up and said,

💪🏾 “My arms feel so much lighter.”
🙌🏾 "There’s less pain when I bend forward.”

Pain eased. Movement restored. And he was straight off to work 💥

It’s amazing what targeted bodywork and recovery can do, not just for easing pain, but for helping your body perform at its best 🔥

If you’re training or dealing with similar pain, book in for your session. 💆🏻‍♂️ 💆🏽‍♀️ 👌🏽💯

🍑 Let’s talk about Piriformis Syndrome! 🍑

Piriformis syndrome is a painful musculoskeletal condition that happens when the piriformis muscle which is a small but mighty muscle deep in your buttock becomes tight or spasms, pressing on the sciatic nerve.

This can cause pain, numbness, or tingling in the buttocks, hip, upper leg, and sometimes all the way down the back of the leg and is very similar to sciatica.

💭 Many people refer to this as sciatic pain, but studies have now confirmed that true sciatica is most often caused by a herniated or bulging disc in the spine. Piriformis syndrome simply mimics those symptoms because of how closely the sciatic nerve runs beneath the muscle.

The pain can feel sharp, shooting, or burning, and often worsens with activities like sitting, climbing stairs, or running.
It’s also more common in women, often due to pelvic alignment, posture, or muscle imbalances.

💆🏽‍♀️ The good news?
Piriformis syndrome responds really well to bodywork, stretching, and strengthening. Releasing tension in surrounding muscles, improving hip mobility, and gently retraining movement patterns can make a huge difference.

🌿 Self-care tips:
🔥 Hot or cold packs – help reduce pain and inflammation.
🤸🏽‍♀️ Gentle stretching – especially around the hips and glutes.
🏋🏽‍♀️ Strengthening exercises – focus on the core and glutes for better balance and support.
🪑 Good posture – avoid long periods of sitting; keep your hips aligned.
🚶🏽‍♀️ Movement – light walking or mobility work helps blood flow and healing.

Your body carries you through so much so when something tightens, it’s often a gentle nudge to slow down, stretch, and reconnect 💜

👄 Let’s talk about Sciatica! 🗣

Sciatica happens when the sciatic nerve which is the largest nerve in your body becomes irritated or compressed.
Most often, it’s due to a herniated disc, but it can also be caused by:
✨ Piriformis syndrome – when a tight muscle in the glutes presses on the nerve
✨ Spinal stenosis – a narrowing of the spinal canal
✨ And, in rare cases, tumours or other structural issues

You may feel pain, tingling, or numbness that travels from your lower back down one leg and sometimes even to your foot.

💆🏽‍♀️ Treatment & Self-Care

Our bodies are incredible, but when pain speaks... it’s asking for attention:

🔥 Hot or cold packs – ease pain and inflammation.
🤸🏽‍♀️ Gentle movement – walking, swimming, or stretching helps build strength and flexibility. Strengthening your core can give your back the support it deserves.
🪑 Good posture – avoid long periods of sitting or standing in one position.
🏋🏽 Lift smart – always lift with your legs, not your back.

If pain continues, a physiotherapist or bodywork specialist can guide you through tailored exercises and hands-on therapy to help restore movement and comfort.

Your body carries you through every chapter. Take the time to care for it, so it can keep carrying you well 💜

🏃🏽‍♀️ That niggly knee pain that just won’t quit? Let’s talk Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS).

Also known as Runner’s Knee but don’t be fooled by the name! It can also be caused by activities like squatting, jumping, or any movement that puts repeated stress on the knees.

PFPS is one of the most common causes of pain at the front of the knee, right behind or around the kneecap. 👇🏽

It often develops from:
✨ Overuse or a sudden change in training
✨ Weakness in the hips or thighs
✨ Small misalignments in how the kneecap moves

Treatment can include:
💆🏽‍♀️ Manual therapy (massage or gentle mobilisations)
🏋🏽‍♀️ Strength and stability exercises for the hips and thighs
🧘🏽‍♀️ Stretching tight muscles to improve movement
👣 Orthotic inserts to support knee alignment
🩹 Taping or bracing the knee during activity (can be helpful for some)

If you’ve been feeling that dull ache or twinge around your kneecap, especially when using stairs, squatting, or sitting for long periods then please don’t ignore it. Early support and the right approach can make all the difference.

Our knees carry a lot of weight, literally and emotionally. They support us through every step, every squat, every climb… so it’s only fair we look after them if we want them to last. 🖤

🖤 Strong bodies need strong recovery and the right care helps you move without pain.

Come see me before your knees start throwing tantrums. 😉
