Relfydess is the new botulinum toxin on the block. And in our practice, weโve made the switch to it.
And all of my patients have asked: why make the switch? So, hereโs my two cents, so I can tell yโall once.
For years, Iโve been a Botoxยฎ๏ธ gal. It was my toxin of choice in practice. Worked well, great results. Donโt get me wrong, itโs not broken.
When Relfydess was released, I had a good long look at the science and data behind it. Iโm only going to make choices that affect my patientsโ outcomes if the change is overwhelmingly positive, and with this it was just a no brainer:
1๏ธโฃ Rapid onset in 2 days. Weโre no longer waiting up to 2 weeks for neuromodulator treatments to take effect. This makes a world of difference when planning for events.
2๏ธโฃ Longevity. The studies impressed me. 75% of patients didnโt return to baseline in 6 months. Granted, that doesnโt mean itโs as fresh at 6 months as it is after 2 weeks, and thatโs also not for every patient, but thatโs an impressive lasting power, and so far itโs translated to what I see in practice, at least lasting as long if not longer than other brands.
3๏ธโฃ Itโs liquid. No messing about mixing with saline. That means the potency isnโt affected by reconstituting and thereโs never going to be errors in mixing. That means itโs safer for my patients.
4๏ธโฃ Sustainability. We all worry about our effect on the environment. Did you know Relfydess is made in a carbon-neutral factory and has fully recyclable packaging? I dig that.
You might ask
Itโs new, so is it safe?! Has it been tested?
โก๏ธOF COURSE.
Itโs a licensed drug in the UK and any licensed drug that is approved on the market must conform to rigorous testing and safety standards. The clinical trials for Relfydess alone have been enormous and itโs been in development for 15 years. It was licensed in the UK by the MHRA this year, and itโs been licensed in Europe since last year.
(Bear in mind fillers come to market in the UK requiring NO clinical trials, no licensing and are often not extensively tested - so toxins are brought to market with a lot more safety checks!)
So thatโs my two cents about my clinical decision making. I hope that was enlightening ๐
