Natural Breaks Ltd Providing person centred support to disabled and autistic adults in Liverpool City Region.

In 1991, we began as a pilot project; offering regular support services to 9 individuals, from 8 families across Liverpool. Things went so well that we were awarded additional funding to extend our service, and by 1995 we were supporting more than 50 people. 21 years on, we are supporting more people than ever before, and providing a range of services to meet individual needs.

Anthony has always loved music. It makes him happy, gives him confidence and helps him connect with other people 🎼

At home, Anthony enjoys practising with his own music equipment, including a boom box and a karaoke machine. This gives him the chance to play music, sing along and build his confidence in a space where he feels comfortable.

Recognising his passion, Anthony's support team encouraged him to connect with his interests in a real, tangible way - and the rest is history 🎧

When Cathy was diagnosed with cancer, she faced a frightening and uncertain time.

As Cathy does not use words to communicate and is unable to make complex decisions about her health, Cathy relied on her incredible support team — and they rose to the challenge.

Today, Cathy is living and thriving. We are so proud of her courage, determination and resilience every step of the way ✨

Feedback from families means the world to us and reminds us of why the work we do is important. Here's what one family shared about David:

“The support David receives from Natural Breaks means that he can live independently. Despite gradually losing the use of his legs, he has a good social life and is able to participate in a lot of activities that he couldn't previously.

I know that David is well cared for by Natural Breaks and because of this, I no longer worry about what is going to happen to him when I die. He will still be loved and looked after by the staff, who have his best interests at heart.

I have nothing but praise for the staff at Natural Breaks, especially those working to support David in his own home".

Our teams work with compassion, determination and heart. We are so proud of everything they do, each and every day 💜

Elsa joined Natural Breaks in September 2025, stepping into the role of Support Worker for the first time ✨

Since joining, no two days have the been the same. From supporting people to access their local communities to learning new skills on training courses to Christmas carol singing - the months have flew!

Reflecting on her time, Elsa shared: “It's more than a job. Sometimes, support can feel like I'm spending time with a friend, and it’s the best feeling in the world when I help a person we support accomplish their goals” 🚀

What a strike 🎳

Last week, we re-started our monthly bowling nights for people we support, staff, families and friends alike! The evenings provide a safe space for people to connect, try something different and be part of their local community.

None of this would be possible without the Take a Break Project and our generous supporters.

Sophie has worked at Natural Breaks since 2020, progressing from Support Worker to Senior Support Worker in her time 🚀

For her, one of the best parts about her role is that no two shifts are ever the same. From supporting people to learn a new skill, going on a seaside holiday to the Natural Breaks caravan or getting out into the local community - its never boring!

Reflecting on her own journey, Sophie shared: “The past six years have flown by, and I can honestly say that since working at Natural Breaks, I have learnt more from the people we support than a university degree could ever teach me" ✨

Cathy loves being out in the community, she loves to be in the mix of everything where she can see and hear what’s going on and be involved in the festivities. For Boxing Day last year, Cathy headed out for the evening with her friends. 💫

Before the night out, Cathy and her support team looked at different Boxing Day events taking place in the city, online and in-person. This included making sure venues were accessible and had suitable facilities, such as ground-floor toilets and space so that her wheelchair could be accommodated comfortably without her getting knocked into.

Wanting to make the most of the festivities on Boxing Day, Cathy, her friends and support team headed for a delicious meal before walking to a pub in their local area. They chose to stay near their homes as it was familiar, comfortable and suited Cathy’s needs and you didn’t need to buy a ticket to enter!

Everyone had a brilliant time and spent the night dancing, having fun and even, getting on the mic for a singsong with the live entertainment act. Cathy didn’t stop smiling and was even trying to get up in her chair so that she could have a better boogie with everyone around her 💃

This is what support at Natural Breaks is all about. Our teams help people we support live ordinary, fulfilling lives.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chris had to leave his home of twenty years and find a new home at the end of 2025. Within a few weeks, Chris and his support team had sourced new accommodation with another person supported by Natural Breaks 🏠

Despite a few bumps in the road, Chris and his support team worked together to secure his support hours and his new ‘forever home! (which meets all his current and future health needs)– all whilst organising and packing, to make sure the house move was as smooth and stress-free as possible.

In the weeks leading up to the move, Chris’ support team dedicated time to paint his bedroom and organise regular visits to the property, before welcoming him into his new home. This gave Chris the opportunity to familiarise himself with his new home and, also, his new house mate whom he will be living alongside 💫

Since moving in, the days have been incredibly busy, from building furniture to deciding where to store all of Chris’ belongings. Nevertheless, he is settling comfortably into his new home, getting to know his new housemate more and learning to navigate a shared house.

Two of Chris’ favourite things about his home are the close transport links, which mean he can travel around the city easily, and the garden, something he never had at his last property. And we can’t forget his new recliner chair that has pride of place in the living room and which he loves to settle into 🚌

We all wish Chris the very best in his new home!

Back in November 2025, Rebecca had the brilliant idea to start a singing group at Natural Breaks for people we support. As a professional singing teacher outside of her day job as a support worker, Rebecca had not run weekly singing sessions for quite a while and thought it might be something Natural Breaks would be interested in 👨🏻‍🎤

At the beginning, Rebecca’s goal was to simply facilitate some joy by bringing people together to sing each week. She was interested in getting to meet more people supported by Natural Breaks and what they could create, together.

Going back to that first session, Rebecca described the energy as being off the scale. She said: “I was so impressed with how everyone threw themselves into singing their favourite Christmas songs, even if it was only November”!

As the weeks went by and the singing sessions grew from strength to strength, Rebecca noticed the positive impact it brought to people’s lives. Reflecting, she shared: “I think singing as a group is great way to build confidence, especially in a group like that, where everyone was so supportive. I loved seeing the quieter members of the group putting themselves forward to sing solo parts but, also, how different levels of engagement suited different people, whether that was shaking some jingle bells or playing the keyboard. I think the sessions brought a lot of communal joy and high spirits”💫

Fast forward to Friday 19th December, after many choir practises, our singing group took to Liverpool City Centre to perform a series of classic Christmas carols. From Last Christmas to Jingle Bells, they covered them all. Rebecca added: “I was so impressed with the enthusiasm that the gang brought when we did the city centre performances. I particularly enjoyed it when they sang Jingle Bells with Anthony playing keys and then kept on singing A Capela whilst we had some minor technical difficulties”.

On the day, our choir was joined by families and colleagues who showed support and sung along. It created a great energy and there was a real buzz, from beginning to end. We were able to use the space to chat to the public and raise awareness about Natural Breaks, and the work we do 🚀

Reflecting on the overall experience, Rebecca shared: “I think one of the great things about the choir was that it enabled the people we support and other staff members to sing together, encourage each other to be brave and perhaps step a little outside their comfort zones. I really hope it's encouraged members of the group to keep singing and join us again next time around of course! I'm incredibly appreciative to the team at Natural Breaks for running with the idea of a choir. Not just finding a space for us to sing but actively making it a wonderful process - from printing lyrics and buying speakers to joining and performing with the choir! It was a special experience”.
