Over at iGPc we are delighted to have helped and played a small part in all the amazing work that The Joseph Lappin Centre do for the community. Thank you very much and happy holidays to all! 😊❀️

We want to say a massive thank you to the iGPc Social Prescriber (Innovative General Practice Collaborative) for organising a brilliant food drive for our Christmas hampers. Because of their kindness, families in our community will receive not just a Christmas dinner, but also festive treats and enough food to see them through at least a week over the school holidays. This helps make sure no one goes hungry this Christmas.

The Collaborative brings together GP practices from across the area, including our most local surgeries Old Swan Practice and Rock Court, along with many other practices who all got behind this and helped make it happen.

It means so much to see people who care for our community every day also coming together to support families in a really practical way like this when it matters most. This food will make a genuine difference to so many households over Christmas.

Thank you to Mel and Chelsie for organising and everyone involved. Your support is truly appreciated.

Recent headlines have reported that President Trump has claimed paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen/Tylenol) use during pregnancy is β€œthe cause of autism.”

Understandably, this has left many autistic people and parents worried. We want to be clear: there is no scientific evidence that paracetamol causes autism.

Major health bodies, including the NHS, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, continue to recommend paracetamol as the safest first-line option for managing pain and fever during pregnancy. Untreated high fever, by contrast, can pose real risks to both parent and baby.

Misinformation can cause unnecessary fear. We encourage families to rely on trusted medical advice and remember. For the most up-to-date guidance on paracetamol usage in pregnancy please refer to the NHS website: https://f.mtr.cool/qdlzndnuch or consult with your GP/pharmacist.

We understand this kind of news can be distressing to families with disabled and/or autistic children. Remember, our Listening Ear service is here for you - book a 1-to-1 appointment with one of our family advicers on our website here: contact.org.uk/listening-ear

πŸ“’ September is Urology Awareness Month!

An important part of urology awareness is the prostate. The prostate is a small gland that plays a big role in urinary and reproductive health. Problems with the prostate become more common as men get older, and early recognition is key.

⚠️ Common symptoms to look out for:
β€’ Difficulty starting or stopping urination
β€’ Needing to go more often, especially at night
β€’ A weak flow or feeling like the bladder isn’t fully empty
β€’ Blood in the urine or semen

πŸ‘‰ If you’re experiencing urinary changes or have concerns about your prostate health, please contact us on:

🌐Fill in a Paco Blinx form via our website https://westderbymc.nhs.uk/

Many prostate conditions are treatable, especially when caught early.
