Valentine’s Day is a pretty appropriate moment to talk about cardiac health.

A few weeks ago, Dr David Porter was in Kuwait for the Sports Doctors Network Middle East Summit, delivering a presentation on cardiac screening and sudden cardiac death in professional football. Dr Porter regularly speaks internationally, drawing on his experience in elite football and sports medicine to share best practice in athlete health, risk management, and return-to-performance decision-making.

He also contributed as a panel member on the evidence for biologics in professional athletes, and on rehabilitation to match readiness.

We apply the same standard here at Opus: evidence-led clinical decision-making, structured rehabilitation, and personalised care.

If you’re returning from injury, managing ongoing pain, or want a clear, structured plan for performance and longevity, book an assessment at www.opusbiological.com

So many thanks to for this month’s Tatler feature on Opus.

Astrid reflects on Dr David Porter’s route from NHS A&E and intensive care into elite football, and the thinking behind Opus: bringing the standard of care typically reserved for professional sport into a clinic built around individuals, not templates.

She captures our model clearly: a highly experienced, multi-disciplinary team and a simple, rigorous framework, assess, treat, rehab, supported by thorough baseline testing and a detailed, personalised programme shaped around each patient’s overall goal.

Whether you’re recovering from injury, preparing for surgery, returning after an operation, or focusing on longevity, the approach is proactive, structured and evidence-led.

At the heart of it is the line that defines our ethos:
“No matter how good a doctor you are, you’re the support act, the patient is the star.”

To enquire or book an assessment, use the link in bio or DM “OPUS” and our team will take care of the rest.

This is Dr David Porter, Founder of Opus and Sports Medicine Doctor. 👋

David started his career in A&E and intensive care, drawn to the pace, pressure and decision-making. An opportunity to work at Chelsea FC soon followed, one he couldn’t turn down, and that began a decade working in elite football.

There were some incredible highs (including cup wins and access to cutting-edge treatments like stem cells), alongside the realities of constant travel and the politics that come with professional sport.

In 2018, David co-founded Opus with a clear aim: to make stem cell treatment accessible in the UK in a safe, ethical and research-led way, after seeing first-hand the difference it made to injured players.

Since then, Opus has evolved into a truly personalised healthcare service, looking beyond symptoms to consider biomechanics, psychology and long-term performance.

No two patients, or plans, look the same.

Outside the clinic, David’s an enthusiastic amateur weight-lifter, navigating the same work-life-training juggle many of our patients know well and occasionally struggling to practise what he preaches.

Our following’s grown quite a bit recently, so if you’re new here, we’re continuing to (re)introduce the people behind Opus.

This is Kate, our Medical Secretary, the calm, friendly voice helping to keep everything (and everyone) running smoothly. 👋

Kate’s been part of Opus for almost two and a half years and loves the balance of professionalism, care and teamwork that defines the clinic.

Outside work, you’ll usually find her lifting weights, at Pilates, or catching up with friends. At home, she’s her kids’ biggest supporter, one training to become a commercial pilot, and the other already working in aviation ground support.

Travel is a big part of Kate’s world, whether it’s a family trip to Mexico or a quick visit to see her best friend in Norway, she’s always planning the next adventure.

This is Laura Cole, our Patient Engagement Manager, and quite possibly the first person you’ll speak to when you get in touch with us. 👋

Before joining Opus in 2021, Laura spent 16 years in the travel industry, working within the aviation team at Crystal Ski. She made the move into private healthcare looking for a new challenge, and quickly became an integral part of how we support patients day to day.

Laura’s favourite part of her role? Seeing patients progress through their rehabilitation, from their first visit to full recovery — and being part of that journey.
Outside the clinic, you’ll usually find her in the gym with her husband, on a muddy dog walk with Ember, or spending time with her three teenagers (who keep life busy and brilliantly unpredictable).

This is Gavin Eivers, our Strength & Conditioning Coach. 💪

With over 20 years’ experience in strength, conditioning and rehab, Gavin’s helped people all over the world — from New York to Melbourne, Auckland and London — move better, feel stronger and stay active.

His approach isn’t about chasing PBs; it’s about long-term strength, health and performance. At Opus, he works closely with our physios and doctors to bridge the gap between rehab and performance.

Outside the clinic, you’ll usually find him outdoors — running trails, training or spending time with his family in Somerset.

Our following’s grown quite a bit lately, so if you’re new here, we’re reintroducing the people behind Opus.

This is Millie Lindsey, one of our physiotherapists (and our resident reformer expert). 👋
Millie knew she wanted to be a physio from the age of 15. A former national-level gymnast and synchronised swimmer, she spent plenty of time in physio clinics herself, and decided she wanted to be on the other side of the treatment table.

After graduating, she jumped straight into MSK physiotherapy and Pilates-based rehab, helping athletes and post-op patients get back to full strength.
Somehow, that also led to a career travelling the world, working as an on-set physio for film and theatre productions in New York, Atlanta and across Europe.

Millie joined Opus four years ago and has been part of the team ever since, combining precision, patience and Pilates to help patients move and feel better.

This is Bart Hudson-Gill, one of our Performance Physiotherapists. 👋

Bart started out in private practice, building a strong foundation in rehab and performance, before moving into a FIFA Centre of Excellence, where he worked with athletes across multiple sports, and even spent time in Italy learning from elite football clubs and medical teams.

He joined Opus about a year and a half ago and hasn’t looked back. Bart’s known for his calm, practical approach (and for always being up for a challenge), bringing the best of elite sport into everyday recovery and performance care.

Outside the clinic, he’s a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete, something that keeps him grounded and gives him a real appreciation of what it takes to stay fit, focused and injury-free.

Our following has grown quite a lot recently, so if you’re new here — we wanted to (re)introduce the team behind Opus.

First up, Ian Gilham, our Lead Physiotherapist. 👋

Ian began his career in the NHS before moving into professional football and later into the private sector, where he’s worked with high performers across sport, music and film, both in the UK and internationally.

He joined Opus four years ago and has been a key part of our growth ever since — helping shape how we approach physiotherapy, rehabilitation and performance.

Outside the clinic, Ian’s dad to two young boys who keep him busy (and honest) — balancing gym work, running and family life with the same energy he brings to his patients.

The start of a new year doesn’t need to mean punishment, restriction or chasing arbitrary numbers.

In GQ’s latest feature, “10 ways to make working out more fun in 2026”, performance specialist Gavin Eivers shares why enjoyment — not optimisation — is often the missing piece in long-term fitness.

From using short bursts of explosive movement to prime motivation, to reframing training around skill, novelty and neurological reward, the message is clear:
when movement feels good, consistency follows.

This year, we’re quietly dispelling the “New Year, New You” narrative — and replacing it with something far more sustainable:

Move better, think smarter, and enjoy the process.

Dr David Porter has been featured in the Tatler Doctors Guide 2026, recognised for his work in sports and regenerative medicine.

Before founding Opus Biological in Marylebone, David spent years working at the highest level of elite sport, including as first-team doctor at Chelsea FC, experience that still shapes his approach today.

His focus is on helping people move well, recover fully and perform at their best, combining sports medicine, regenerative treatments and long-term injury management.

This recognition reflects not just expertise, but the care, precision and trust that define his work every day at Opus.
