Posted • It’s been 9 years today to this very day (11.11.11) since I’ve had my life saving surgery at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Birmingham. I am forever grateful for the exceptional care I received during my three months stay. The tremendous NHS staff from the cleaners keeping the wards cleaned to the consultants sharing their knowledge and expertise. Not forgetting our NHS heroes that come in the form of nurses...alongside any NHS staff across the UK.
Since then, life has been challenging but allow me to say; I’m blessed to have this life, this opportunity to make a difference to others. I can openly share with you that I learnt to walk again after my surgery. Words cannot convey, what emotions and feelings one would go through but, having lost almost all of body weight (I was only 33kg when I left the hospital).
Moving on, I started my work in mental health a very long time ago (in 2004/05) and then officially in 2007.
Some, would say; be cautious in attending the hospitals at the current crisis we are facing during this epidemic...but let’s not our worries and concerns overlook those staff working tirelessly hard to take care of the patients currently in hospital. Covid-19 has swallowed up 2020 and the uncertainty ain’t helping.
Mental health affects all, it’s been underfunded for many years, I have seen funding chopped and NHS trust’s forced to make savings. This resulted impacting the service users. (This is not a political rant).
Let’s keep talking and continue sharing support and guidance to those in need. Let’s continue sharing respect and kindness to family, friends, neighbours and most importantly strangers too. We all have struggles in life, some people may be worse off then you. Don’t be afraid to offer help, as you never know when you may be in need too.
Having been actively involved at local and national level within Mental Health, I’m pleased to share that I will be dedicating my life-term to Mental Health Services. This, is the very reason I’ve set up Think About Mental Health to continue championing positive mental health for all.
