Imagine a submarine deep beneath the ocean surface that suddenly loses power. The engines stop. The lights dim. The vessel begins to drift downward, slowly at first, then faster as gravity and pressure pull it deeper into the abyss. Inside, the crew has two choices. They can sit there in denial, pretending nothing is wrong while the ocean pressure builds around them, or they can confront the reality of the situation and act before the vessel reaches a depth where it will inevitably implode.
Life can feel exactly like that submarine. Sometimes we lose direction, motivation, clarity or purpose. The systems that once kept us moving forward stop working. At first we may ignore the signs. We tell ourselves everything is fine while we continue drifting deeper into habits, environments, or patterns that are not serving us. But just like that submarine, the deeper we drift without intervention, the harder it becomes to recover.
The first step to regaining control is honesty. Brutal, uncomfortable honesty with yourself. You must acknowledge that something is not working. Acceptance is not weakness. It is awareness. And awareness is the moment you stop drifting and begin taking back control of the controls.
The next step is investigation. A submarine engineer would not randomly press buttons and hope for the best. They would diagnose the problem. Where did the failure occur? What system broke down? What chain of events led to this moment? In life it is the same. You must identify the root cause of what is pulling you downward. Old beliefs. Fear. The wrong environment. The wrong people. The wrong path.
Only then can action begin. Repairs must be made. Adjustments must happen. New decisions must replace old patterns. When the systems come back online, the submarine can change its glide path and begin its slow, powerful ascent back toward the surface.
And when it breaks through the water again, the crew can breathe.
The question is simple. Will you keep drifting into the darkness waiting for the pressure to crush you, or will you take responsibility, repair what is broken, and rise back toward the light?
