Jackfruit - the largest tree fruit which is native to South Asia. Jackfruit is incredibly versatile with it being more ‘fruit-like’ when ripe and more savoury when raw. Pictured above is not just any pile of jackfruit, but one found by a very dedicated Archchi who did not want to disappoint their cute, little cherub grandchild.

A common sight whilst driving along the busy, windy roads of Sri Lanka - these beautiful banana stalls usually have dozens and dozens of varieties of bananas. A personal favourite being ‘seenie Kesel’ (sugar banana), which goes perfectly with some kiribath (milk rice).

The pinwheel jasmine flower - an evergreen shrub found widely across Sri Lanka and a core memory. Growing up, our Archchi (grandmother)would go out into the garden at the same time every day to pluck a bag or two in preparation for a pooja. She’d often recruit us to help and we’d see who could pick the most flowers. The reward being bragging rights and sticky fingers!

The feeling of going back to visit Lanka has always been incredibly special, but going with our little ones makes everything hit a little different now. Pictured here are two determined little cousins who teamed up (for ages) to transport coconut husks in a wheelbarrow.
