Your health is too important to trust just anyone. 🌿 Unfortunately, not everyone offering treatments has the qualifications, experience, or knowledge to safely support you.
When choosing a therapist, here are a few things to check:
✅ Registration with a professional body, like the FHT, isn’t mandatory but is a quick way to verify the therapist has proper training, diplomas, and insurance. Professional bodies ensure that standards are met, so you can trust you’re in good hands.
✅ Make sure your therapist is fully insured. This protects both of you during treatments. Peace of mind goes a long way!
✅ Consultation forms: Good therapists will always assess your medical history to ensure the treatment is safe for you.
✅A responsible therapist will refer you to another professional if they’re not the right fit for your specific needs.
🚨 A quick note: I’ve had clients come to me after being discharged from hospital (for example, after a stroke) and wanted a massage. In such cases, it’s important to seek medical approval first, and sometimes massage may not be appropriate at all.
Unfortunately, not all therapists have the same standards. Some may attempt treatments that are unsafe, making the situation worse. Be cautious, ask questions, and always ensure your therapist is qualified.
Your health should always come first! 💪
