These are just some of the ways that ADHDers use stimming - a repetitive, self-stimulatory behaviour - to improve focus, control impulses and cope with stress.

There’s also ‘happy stimming’ to express happiness or excitement.

Not sure if you have a stim? 🤔

Ask those close to you if they’ve noticed any repetitive behaviours.

And remember: stimming is nothing to be ashamed of!

It’s a great way to soothe your mind and regain focus 🧘

What’s your go-to stim?

You *know* a task needs doing.

You *want* to do the task.

But, try as you might, you’re completely stuck on how to get started 😫

Sooo frustrating!

👉 This is known as ADHD paralysis.

It’s like being in a traffic jam when you’re only a mile from your destination.

There are three key ingredients to cooking up ADHD paralysis:

😵‍💫 Overwhelm: ADHD brains can struggle with breaking tasks into manageable steps, leading to feeling overwhelmed and frozen in place

🧩 Decision-making challenges: Those with ADHD may have trouble prioritising tasks and making decisions, resulting in a mental standstill

💀 Fear of failure: The dread of making mistakes or failing can cause ADHD paralysis, as the brain opts for inaction over taking risks. Perfectionism also has a lot to answer for with this one! 🥺

By recognising ADHD paralysis for what it is, we can better equip ourselves with strategies to overcome it.

❌ Myth: ADHD is a male disorder.

✅ Fact: ADHD affects all genders and ages.

ADHD understanding is constantly evolving and improving.

Yet the number of women diagnosed with ADHD remains significantly lower than men.

Reasons for this include:

- Outdated diagnostic criteria (based on how men present with ADHD, rather than women)

- Women often mask their symptoms, making them harder to spot

- The stereotype that ADHD is a male-specific disorder

- Women are more likely to be diagnosed with inattentive subtype of ADHD, which is missed more often than hyperactive ADHD

- Women are more likely to have other mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, meaning ADHD symptoms go unnoticed

We’re on a mission to end the ADHD stigma once and for all 🚀

If you have ADHD, you need to know about brown noise 🤎

You’ve probably heard of white noise before.

But brown noise has a lower frequency and a warm, consistent sound that mirrors the sounds of nature.

Think tranquil waterfall or the rustle of leaves 🍂

It can also sound like being on a plane when everyone's nodded off 🛬

Or like you're cosied up inside on a windy autumn day ☕

The key takeaway? 👉 Brown noise is a game-changer for focus and relaxation.

If you fancy giving brown noise a listen, we’ve compiled the best links to brown noise sounds over on the Deepwrk blog 😴🎧

- Insomnia
- Restless nights
- Difficulty waking up
- Difficulty falling asleep
- Irregular sleeping pattern

Sounding familiar?

40-80% of people with ADHD struggle with sleep disorders 😴

And this has a huge impact on other ADHD symptoms, such as increasing forgetfulness and concentration levels.

But it’s not just ADHD symptoms that are affected 🧠

Long-term sleep deprivation can make you prone to various physical health problems, including mood disorders, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.

So, getting a good night’s sleep is pretty serious stuff!

A regular sleep schedule and a calm bedroom environment are key to a good night’s kip.

Weighted blankets are great, too - super cosy and great for calming down busy ADHD minds 😌
