Lecture at “Festival International de Trombone - APT” in Braga, Portugal .inter.trombone
“Functional Biomechanics in wind players’ performance: Myths, Facts and implications on health and wellbeing”
Delivering my very first lecture as an aspiring performance scientist, as an individual that had to change part of his ambition as a musician and doing a long term break in performance due to a performance-related condition called “Musicians Focal Dystonia”. It will always be ok to not be ok, to know when to stop, to rest, to look for self-care and when it’s the time to rest(art) again at each one’s rhythm.
Resilience keeps me understanding that “out of adversity comes opportunity”, looking to educate myself with new knowledge, new understanding, new perceptions and perspectives.
This is a new chapter and a great new challenge in another type of performance 💪🏽
In this humble lecture, it will be shared some perceptions, perspectives and analysing some concepts that hopefully will help performers to understand the necessity of caring and listening to their body first, physically and mentally.
Breaking taboos and stigmas about performance is one of the most important elements to have a healthier career, a healthier life, either as a performer and individual.
Performance is present in every single domain and area. It’s important to start looking at it as something that we all have in common.
Each one of us has similarities to an athlete, to an artist, to any other domain. It is time to see things from multiple perspectives and increase our perceptions, not just to have better performance excellence but to have better life excellence.
“It’s insanity doing the same thing and expecting different results”
“Nothing changes if nothing changes”
