Strike action starts from 7am Wednesday 17 December and runs until 7am Monday 22 December. Some NHS services will be affected.

Here’s what you need to know about accessing NHS care during this time:

1. During the resident doctor strikes, all other NHS staff will still be working hard to keep you safe.

2. If you need urgent medical help use 111, go online or use the NHS app.

3. Call 999 in an emergency when someone is seriously ill or their life is at risk.

4. You will be contacted if your appointment needs to be changed.

5. GP practices, community services and dental surgeries remain open.

Good luck to Michelle Phillpot and our Maximising Independence Service, who have both been shortlisted for this year’s gesh CARE Awards.

Michelle, our Medicines Optimisation Dietitian, has been shortlisted for the Better Value Award. Her nomination highlights her outstanding commitment to delivering cost-effective, safe, and sustainable nutritional care.

Meanwhile our Maximising Independence Service (MIS) has been shortlisted for the Chair and Chief Executives Choice Award. Their nomination recognises the team’s unwavering commitment to timely and compassionate care.

Temperatures are expected to fall across parts of England this week which can impact some people’s health.

As the weather gets colder there are some things you can do to help yourself stay well in winter.

💉 Get your winter vaccines.

🏠 Heat the rooms you regularly use to at least 18°C.

🧦 Wear suitable clothing.

❤️ Look out for older or vulnerable neighbours, friends and family members who may need some extra help.

💊 Make sure you have enough food and stock up on your medication.

🚶‍♂️ Your local pharmacy is here to help as you can get treatment for seven common conditions without a GP appointment or prescription and they can give you advice on other medications.

Michelle is a finalist for a Better Value Award as she pioneered a project which makes nutrition prescribing safer, more sustainable, and cost-effective as it saves thousands of pounds while improving patient outcomes and reducing waste.

The gesh CARE Awards is a ‘thank you’ to health heroes at St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospitals who make a real difference to patients and colleagues ✨

Award-winning TV presenter Elle Osili-Wood will host the event on 9 December which is generously sponsored by our hospital charities and local businesses.
