NURTURE YOUR BODY

It’s hard to believe that Summer is almost over, the kids will be back at school in two weeks & Autumn clothes/food/activities will be making a comeback 🧣🍲🍿🍁

So be sure to make the most of what’s left of Summer!

☀️ Enjoy the longer days & evening sunlight ~ get out early or escape of an evening, to walk, reset, relax & practice mindfulness

☀️ Do not forget your SPF even if though the heat may have subsided!

☀️ Stay hydrated throughout the day, to avoid unwanted headaches, fatigue & difficulty concentrating

☀️ Mix up your movement routine (whether that be with lots of extra walking to explore new places on holiday, by using the longer days to add more exercise into your day, having the time to try new activities with family & friends, as well as using the outdoors to join in with local fitness groups & classes)

☀️ Maintain a consistent sleep schedule to help keep a balanced mood & boost cognitive function

☀️Take advantage of all the delicious & colourful in-season fruits & vegetables ~ these wonderful micronutrients will also aid hydration, help keep antioxidant levels high & set healthy habits ahead of those colder [more comforting] months

✨ I N T R O D U C I N G ~ ME 👋🏼

Hi, I’m Helena & I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly. I’ve met so many of you over the years & hope that I will continue to get to know maaaaany more of you 🤗

Before spending my days in lycra & training at odd times of the day, I was a media gal & spent almost 15yrs working in ad agencies, living the corporate dream (of a decent salary, sick pay, benefits & time to read a book on the daily commute). It was in fact, the only job I ever wanted 😇
Alongside the long office hours, I kept a ridiculously busy social diary & daily fitness routine to match 😎

I’m 2017 though, I started to wish that I could be working in the jobs of my fellow fitness friends…. I also wanted to give back - give back the feelings & enjoyment & confidence that I got, from my daily fitness classes & workouts 💛

By 2019 I was ready. I left full-time media for self-employment, within an industry that is bursting with experts, trends, transformations, influencers, ego & misinformation 🤯

Fast-forward to now. I’ve been training pre & post natal women, locally to E17 for over 5yrs ✨
My mission, since I began teaching classes in 2017, was to help build confidence in the mind, body & ability of all the wonderful people I had the pleasure of teaching & now coaching, on a journey that is so unique, personal & unlike anyone else’s ✨

Your Body, is like no other. I am here to guide you through movement, support you with nutrition choices & encourage you to nurture yourself, daily.

Whatever life-stage you are in & experiencing, I will tailor your health & fitness needs/goals/expectations accordingly & join you on YOUR journey 💛

🙋🏻‍♀️ I turned 40 last summer (& am most definitely, already perimenopausal)
🙋🏻‍♀️ I am obsessed with sweets (terrible at sharing) & the sun (shamefully - & probably not keeping my aging at bay)
🙋🏻‍♀️ I love burpees!
🙋🏻‍♀️ I hate cooking but LOVE talking about food, what to eat, where to eat & can provide [unsolicited] advice all day long
🙋🏻‍♀️ I also work with as well as freelance work with Alchemy Network (for those adtech & martech experts out there)

FUEL YOUR BODY

We’re back! Back to work, back to school, back to thinking about how we provide our body with healthy, nutritious, satiating food…. 💭 🍽️ ⚖️

A diet that is rich in fibre (and high in protein) will have many benefits. Today we’ll look at why fibre is your best friend 🤝🏻

Fibre is a special type of carbohydrate & there are two kinds: both of which are important! 🔑

Soluble fibre makes you feel fuller for longer (much like protein), whilst insoluble fibres aids the movement of waste through the body, thus regulating a healthy digestive system 🦠

Increase your fibre intake gradually & be sure to drink plenty of fluids🚰

Fibre really is pretty fabulous, as it will -
🧬 Improve your gut microbiome
🧬 Reduce digestive symptoms
🧬 Regulate blood sugar levels
🧬 Lower cholesterol
🧬 Increase satiety of meals

NURTURE YOUR BODY

Haaaappy Friday!!

Taking a moment to tell you all, how important you are 🫶🏼

Why?

Because so many things, thoughts, people, loved ones, interrupt us, cause [some form of] distraction, & regularly, take priority over something else/us….

So as difficult as it might feel sometimes, I hope that you’ll all be able to find just a few moments to nurture your body, daily 💖

Here are 10 simple suggestions to start with:

✨ Meditate / sit in silence / practice 5mins of breath-work morning & evening
✨ Enjoy some warmth on your skin & sit in the sun
✨ Make a conscious effort to stay hydrated
✨ Treat yourself to a relaxing and/or deep tissue massage
✨ Enjoy a bubbly / salt bath
✨ Take a cold shower
✨ Get up 15-30mins earlier to exercise and/or schedule in a daily walk
✨ Aim for one day…two days….one week of whole foods only (nothing processed)
✨ Take a day or two away from social media
✨ Go to bed 30-60mins earlier

Suuuuper easy to add into your diet of delicious, nutritious whole foods!

Although the majority (65%) of calories within a walnut are fats, (essential fats I might add) they also include protein, fibre, magnesium & iron!

😍 Pair with fruit, cheese & crackers
😍 Substitute for pine nuts in a pesto dressing
😍 Add to banana bread, porridge & flapjack
😍 Keep portion sizes low, but enjoy as a snack!

*it goes without saying though - if you are or think you have a nut allergy, stay away from & communicate to others ✌🏼

MOVE YOUR BODY

The decline (and drop) in oestrogen has several effects on the body including a change in our body composition. And whilst we work with nature (or replacement therapies) to treat symptoms, exercise is a REALLY useful tool for enhancing how we live, feel & experience life during this time.

🩷 Maintaining a healthy weight & building muscle will help protect our bones

🩷 Keeps our heart healthy

🩷 Improves mobility & reduces joint pain

🩷 Supports & strengthens our pelvic floor - just like the rest of our body, muscles will weaken

🩷 Helps relieve stress

🩷 Can aid sleep

This week we celebrate International Women’s Day, & the theme this year is INCLUSION 🌍

An inclusive culture is one that encourages open conversation about menopause & supports the needs of women experiencing (often debilitating) symptoms in the workplace, & as of last week, this must now be recognised 👊🏼

Research shows that working women aged 40-60 with menopause symptoms, felt that their work was being impacted negatively -

🧠 79% said they were less able to concentrate
🤯 68% said they experienced more stress
😡 49% said they felt less patient with clients & colleagues
🪫 46% felt less physically able to carry out the tasks

NURTURE YOUR BODY

The New Year, I hope, feels exciting, optimistic & full of possibilities!! For many though, it may bring about feelings of uncertainty, change & a plethora of mixed emotions.

This is your time to meet yourself wherever you’re at & tune into your mind, body, messages & feelings.

🫀Re-connect with your breathing to calm your central nervous system

🥣 Start your day with a satiating breakfast, of wholefoods & protein - this will help to regulate your hormones & kick start your metabolism for the day

⚖️ Pay attention to what your guy may be telling you - signs your nervous system may need additional support

🚿 Try taking some cold showers throughout the week - this will help to strengthen your vagus nerve (connected to our parasympathetic nervous system which controls bodily functions, heart rate & our immune system)

📱 Limit your screen time & consciously disconnect, to improve sleep, improve posture, decrease anxiety, increase focus & enhance overall well-being

😇 Consider ways in which you can improve your sleep routine, introduce more wholefoods, plant foods & protein sources in your diet, as well as looking for new ways & rituals for providing daily moments of self-care
