People often assume that in aesthetics we only prescribe Botox, but the reality is very different. My prescribing scope is vast and goes far beyond that. Here’s just a snapshot of the medications I prescribe to keep my patients safe and deliver the best outcomes. In fact, my scope of practice is often broader than what many prescribers are able to do in a hospital setting.
Emergency & Supportive Medications for Aesthetic Complications
Hyaluronidase Management
• Hyaluronidase (1500U vials)
• 0.9% Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
Vascular Support
• Aspirin (100mg tablets; 300mg sublingual for acute use)
• Dexamethasone 8mg IM
• Prednisolone 20mg tablets
• Hydrocortisone 100mg IM
• Ibuprofen 600mg
Specialized Medications
• Timolol 0.5% eye drops
• Brimonidine 0.2% eye drops
• Brinzolamide eye drops
Anaphylaxis Treatment
• Adrenaline 1mg/ml (1:1000) IM
• Promethazine 25mg/ml (2ml IV)
• Salbutamol inhaler (100mcg/dose)
Local Anaesthesia
• Lidocaine 2%
Antibiotics (for infection risk/necrosis prevention)
IV Vitamins & Electrolytes
• Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) IV
• B-Complex vitamins IV
• Magnesium sulfate IV
Buffer / Metabolic Support
• Sodium Bicarbonate IV (for severe acidosis/complications)
• N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) IV (antioxidant, glutathione replenisher, reduces oxidative stress/tissue injury)
