As we settle into 2026, it’s important to pause and think about your nervous system health; as in a busy, fast-paced life, it’s your foundation.

A dysregulated nervous system increases pain sensitivity, slows tissue healing, disrupts sleep, and directly undermines your body’s ability to recover from injury or stress.

When your system is constantly in survival mode, symptoms persist longer and recovery slows, no matter how good the treatment is.

Going into 2026, ask yourself:

* Is my routine predictable enough to support recovery?
* Do I have scheduled time to genuinely restore my system?
* What in my week is working against my recovery?

It’s that time of year again!
New year motivation is high and the gyms are full. Unfortunately, it usually means that physiotherapists are kept busy too.

If you’re getting back into training, here are a few things we always recommend:

-Start slower than you think. Leave at least 24 hours between sessions so your body can adapt.

-Mix up how you move. Strength, mobility, cardio, balance. Variety is key for long-term function.

-Lift without shoes. It’s great for foot strength, ankle stability and control.

-Technique matters more than intensity.

-Find a type of exercise you actually enjoy. That’s the biggest factor in whether you’ll stick to it and how good you feel.

Slow and steady really does win. And it’s far more likely to keep you out of a physio appointment!
