Some (and by some I mean I myself) would think that I am in fact cooler now 😅
This is what somatic healing looks like. You don’t alchemise something big in life (in my case it’s been divorce) without becoming woo-woo (or even more woo-woo) in the process 😂
And there is actual science behind this:
- Healing from trauma restores access to our social engagement system
Returning to ventral vagal safety makes us able to experience more connection, more openness, more awe. Safety in the body creates the capacity for spirituality.
- healing trauma powers interoception
Basically our fancy word for connection to the body. Trauma numbs us - healing restores our ability to feel. We are opened up to feeling our intuition, our subtle internal states, our gut feelings and receiving ‘downloads’. In neuroscience terms our inner knowing happens through improved signalling between the insula, anterior cingulate cortex and body.
- healing makes us less fearful
When you go through something awful, you build resilience and courage. Less fear means increased openness to altered states of consciousness - more tolerance for mystery, more curiosity, more imagination. We become more receptive to mystical experiences, seeing 11.11 on the cooker and experiencing synchronicity.
