6 top tips to relieve aching joints:

1. Exercise - it's great for building strength in the muscles around your joints which can help relieve pain

2. Eat a healthy diet - eating healthily ensures you get the right amount of vitamins and minerals into your body which can help reduce joint pain

3. Lose weight - the more weight you are carrying the more pressure your joints are under. Losing weight can reduce that pressure and relieve pain

4. Use supports - it's what they are there for. Supporting painful joints with straps or supports can reduce the pressure they are under and ease pain

5. Use pain relief medicines - whether anti-inflammatory cream, pain relief gel or over the counter pain relief medication; if it hurts, take steps to reduce the pain

6. Take health supplements for joints - such as glucosamine and chondroitin are said to help ease joint stiffness and pain

Living with diabetes can be a very manageable condition. So long as you are mindful of what you eat and watch out for signs of high or low bloody sugars, you can lead a normal life.

We would also recommend you make sure you have your annual health checks:

1) Blood pressure monitoring. Your doctor will check for any early signs of heart disease that people with diabetes are at greater risk of developing.
2) Cholesterol testing to test cholesterol levels. Poor cholesterol control can lead heart disease, so testing helps alert you to any required changes to your diet and lifestyle.
3) Recording smoking status. Smoking heightens the chances of developing complications with diabetes.
4) Foot check to see if there are any changes to the skin, circulation and nerve supply. Poor diabetes management can cause poor circulation, nerve damage and reduce the feeling in your feet.
5) BMI test to check that you are a healthy weight. Your waist measurement is also a good indicator of good health. The results of both may result in advice for weight loss.
6) Blood glucose levels to measure your levels of blood glucose and check overall blood glucose control so that healthy targets can be set for you.
7) Check your kidney function alongside the Serum Creatinine test. These require a blood and urine sample to test your protein levels.

If you have any questions about managing your diabetes, speak to your pharmacist or GP.

November is Epilepsy Awareness month so we thought it was a good idea to take a look at the condition and its symptoms.

Epilepsy causes sudden bursts of electrical activity in the brain. These bursts cause repeated seizures and affect how the brain works, temporarily.

Depending on which part of the brain is involved, seizures affect people in different ways.

Seizures can cause a loss of awareness of unusual sensations for a few seconds or minutes, or they can cause the body to jerk and shake which is more commonly known as a "fit".

Seizures can be triggered by things such as feeling tired, they can occur when you are awake or asleep.

Epilepsy can be a very manageable condition with medication and awareness from colleagues and friends. If you have questions about epilepsy speak to your pharmacist or GP.

Blepharitis is a condition that affects your eyes, making them red, swollen and itchy.

It's not usually serious and can be treated by washing your eyes every day using clean warm water. If not treated it can lead to conjunctivitis and cysts.

If you notice:
- You have a gritty feeling in your eyes
- There are flakes or crusts around the roots of the eyelashes
- You have red eyes or eyelids
- Your eyelids are sticking together in the morning when you wake up

It may be worth speaking to your pharmacist or GP.

You may have eye drops and eye pads recommended to you to help keep your eyes clean and free from harmful bacteria

Are you still wearing a face mask?

We know that cases are on the rise in the UK, with many looking at the government to inform us if we are to go to "Plan B" for the winter... since face masks are an option for people to wear if they choose, we wondered if you are still wearing yours?

Wearing a face mask indoors has been voluntary in England for several months now and many have seen a marked decline in people choosing to wear a mask when in shops, restaurants and pubs.

Causes of indigestion include:

- Drinking alcohol
- Smoking
- Stress and anxiety
- Eating heavy meals or fatty foods
- Eating too fast

Indigestion is caused when the acid in your stomach irritates the stomach lining or your throat. It is most likely to give you a burning sensation with some mild pain.

Controlling mild indigestion can be done by eating healthily, quitting smoking, reducing your alcohol intake, and avoiding the foods which trigger your indigestion (these can vary for each person).

If your indigestion is happening regularly, or you have any concerns about how frequently you are feeling it, speak to your pharmacist or GP.

We know that we should be reducing our stress levels as much as possible in order to improve our physical and mental health, but how can we do it?

Stress is often brought on by the feeling of not having "enough" time to do all the things we want to do. Having better time management can help relieve the stress that these thoughts can bring.

Improving your time management can be achieved by following these simple tips:

- Figure out your achievable goals. Don't try to complete the impossible in 5 minutes. Work out what you could achieve and set a reasonable time limit to it.
- Make a to-do list. Have one simple list, whether it's in a diary or on your phone. Make a list of the achievable goals you have set yourself and remember to cross them off once completed.
- Take a break. Taking breaks when you feel overwhelmed is better for your mental wellbeing than struggling with the task. Grab a 5 minute break away from the task when it becomes too much
- Prioritise what is important. Don't sweat the trivial tasks, get what's important done for you. The less important tasks can wait.

Simple steps to improve your time management and reduce your stress levels

Sleepwalking is mostly associated with children and young people, however it can affect adults too.

The exact cause of sleepwalking is still unknown, but we know that it is more common to affect people with a family history of sleepwalkers. There have also been studies which suggest that the following can trigger sleepwalking or make it worse:

- not getting enough sleep
- stress and anxiety
- infection with a high temperature, especially in children
- drinking too much alcohol
- taking drugs
- certain types of medicine, such as some sedatives
- being startled by a sudden noise or touch, causing abrupt waking from deep sleep
- waking up suddenly from deep sleep because you need to go to the toilet

If you know you, or someone else, regularly sleepwalk try to reduce your risk to these triggers. You could start by ensuring that you get enough sleep each night, go to bed and wake at regular times, perform deep breathing or take a warm bath before bed to reduce stress.
