Lemon essential oil is extracted from lemon zest. This oil has a greenish-yellow colour, with a sharp, strong, citrus aroma.

It contains 68% d-limonene, a powerful antioxidant, and it is thought to have stimulating, calming, antimicrobial, and disinfectant properties.

Lemon oil can repel insects, particularly when mixed with certain other essential oils, which makes for a great alternative to the more toxic commercial insect repellents. Lemon oil can be diluted and applied topically, diffused, or inhaled.

Peppercorns are the dried fruits of the pepper plant. To make black pepper, the fruits or berries are picked while unripe, processed, and then either machine or sun-dried which creates the black wrinkly layer.

The active agent in peppers is piperine, which gives them their pungent flavour. Research suggests that piperine stimulates the intestines and leads to greater nutrient absorption. It could also boost the effects of certain drugs on the body. Black pepper contains moderate amounts of vitamin K, iron, and manganese, with trace amounts of other essential nutrients, protein, and dietary fibre.
