Sometimes, the reason we feel depressed, anxious, and lacking in confidence is that we've lost sight of our purpose. As children, we're encouraged to dream about what we want to do when we're adults.
Now, most of us will not have achieved the dream of becoming an astronaut or a vampire slayer, but what about those roles attracted us to the idea? Exploration of the unknown? The adventure? The danger?
Think about your current job. Is there anything in your current job that touches on what you wanted to do as a child? For example, suppose you dreamed of being an astronaut and are now a science teacher. In that case, you may find that fulfilling - taking children on a voyage of discovery and talking daily about a fascinating subject you love. However, if, instead, you're in a job where every day is the same, where the tasks are repetitive and mundane, there's nothing transferable. Perhaps you're not depressed: you're simply not involved with something that brings you joy. But when was the last time you thought about it?
Journaling isn't encouraging you to bin the job! But journaling will help you understand the elements of your life that lift you. You might join an astronomy group and get your exploration fix that way!
