The theme for 2025 is 'Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future' - which gives us a chance to consider access to and availability of food, and to not take this for granted. So please think carefully about the food you purchase, reuse as leftovers and ultimately waste.
This is timely as I have had a realisation! I have not been wasting food at all, I have been over eating it. Do you find when you are in a place of uncertainty or change that you turn to something else for comfort? Well for me, one of those things has been food. I have been exhausted so food provides the energy, but it also is a treat and something to look forward to in your day to break things up, plus it is also a way to numb uncomfortable feelings.
In addition, when we have a feeling of not being grounded and without routine, we all know this is a receipe to eat for convenience. However routine and preparation plays such an important role in eating a healthy and balanced diet and incorporating exercise into your daily routine.
Most of this year, this has gone out of the window for me and has lead to being more sedentary, not getting exercise by the outdoor activities I love and also eating the wrong things and too much of them!
This is a great wake up call, along with studying a health and nutrition course that has enabled me to reflect a lot basic facts, of energy (calories) consumed versus energy burned and run the numbers that tells me I am very much sitting in the overweight category.
I have always refused to weigh myself my whole life, but I am now looking at myself as a project and utilising all of the tools around me (not just calorie counting). But looking at BMI, height/waist measurement, weight, energy balancing, routine, activty and exercise, supplements, knowledge of foods, healthy eating and nutritional value.
Time to make changes all round - let's not waste food inside or outside of our bodies!
