CBT Cafe They started weekly meetings for tea & cake, becoming lost in conversation about mental health & sharing experiences.

CBT Cafe is a place you can come to talk openly and honestly about mental health and your experiences with no fear of judgement or stigma, just plenty of tea and cake The Cake Before Therapy Cafe (or CBT Cafe) was born between 2 long lost friends who upon reconnecting after 10 years discovered both were experiencing severe mental breakdowns. They realised these honest conversations played a vital part to their recoveries & decided they wanted to give others the same opportunity; somewhere to speak honestly about mental health over plenty of tea & cake, without fear of judgement or stigma, just support & friendship. Afterall... Mental health is for everyone, just like cake!!

I am SO excited to announce my latest project. It is a book initially written just for my best friend who is battling cancer, by and .m.haynes to help explain to her son why they sometimes can't do all the things he wants to do.

"The Thought Catcher"
It is strange times and we are all about to go through a tough few weeks. It is very easy to be consumed by negative or self sabotaging thoughts. We need to try and catch those thoughts and not let our head spin into a pit of negativity. This does not mean to brush them aside and think we 'shouldn't' be thinking how we are. It is important to acknowledge that this is how you feel and sit with it. This can be hard and uncomfortable to do but with time it gets easier.

What ever you are feeling or thinking is valid, but try to catch the negative ones, before you ruminate over them and they spiral out of control. Most importantly be kind to yourself and catch those thoughts before they catch you.

Nothing beats taking a walk through autumn leaves... there is something about the feel and sound of them crunching under my feet that I find so grounding. I had a lovely walk this morning around Hyde park, I didn't realise how much I needed the fresh air and long walk to clear my head... I shall be doing a lot more of this over our new lockdown 🍁

We all have negative thoughts and beliefs, but it is amazing what happens if you pause, step back and think about them rationally or from a different perspective. Over time we can slowly reframe these thoughts to become positives. This takes practice but it is possible to change thought patterns and beliefs; sometimes the facts can remain the same but we can change how we see it; a problem can become a challenge.

Reframing thoughts does not mean ridding ourselves of them but allows us to validate, acknowledge them and approach them with compassion. This takes time and practice but gives huge reward, self growth and confidence.

Examples of reframing could be:

Life is rubbish ➡️ I am going through a challenging time but it will pass and I will learn from it

I'll never get this right ➡️ I am learning ways to do this so I can in the future

I can't do this ➡️ I won't know this until I try

I can't be bothered to do this ➡️ if I do it it will make me feel better even if I only do it for a bit

Update on this page coming soon.... I'm just building up the courage to do an IGTV which for someone who hates everything about seeing herself and hearing herself on camera is totally anxiety provoking!
But here is a hint... this may be one of the last photos with a big focus on on cake!!!
