Michael was a 23-year-old university student when his barber broke the news that he had a bald spot.

‘I was really shocked and was in denial for a long time. I thought if I ignored it, it wouldn’t get worse.

‘As soon as I shaved away the first strip of hair, I had no regrets’ 🪒

Kieran was in his early 20s when he noticed his hair was thinning, and he knew his time was approaching.

‘My Dad and a very good mate of mine are both bald, so I looked towards them for inspiration.’

Aged 24, after finishing a half day at work, Kieran decided to buy some clippers and brave the shave.

‘I would say it is the best decision I’ve made and I haven’t looked back.

‘My advice would be, just do it. If it’s crossed your mind to shave it then that thought won’t go away, so you might as well brave the shave. You won’t regret it.’

‘Now I’ve done it, I know I’m going to be a BLD BRO for life’ 👨‍🦲

For a long time, Andrew has been unhappy with his hairline - but it was only six months ago that he found the courage to ask his barber to shave his hair short.

‘I felt like a weight had lifted and honestly felt like an authentic version of myself for the first time ever.’

‘I was 19 when I first heard I had a bald spot’ 👨‍🦲

Over many years, Shane’s hair got thinner and thinner, to the point that he ultimately decided to make a commitment to himself.

‘I made a New Year’s resolution last year to either get my hair back or get rid of it.

‘I spent a year doing lasers, pills, oils, transplants, etc and ultimately felt like it was an uphill battle I was losing.’

Remembering the promise he made himself, Shane made the ‘pretty spontaneous’ decision to brave the shave.

And while his new look (and cold head) is taking some getting used to, he has no regrets.

‘So far I’m loving it.’

‘I’ve finally done something I’ve been putting off for years’ 🪒👏

Darren’s hair has been leaving him for a long time, causing him a huge amount of stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and panic attacks.

He was encouraged to ‘just shave it off’ and he laughed along with ‘banter’ about his hair loss - but all the while his dread kept growing.

‘I was going to extremes, cropping photos where I didn’t like my hair, constantly wearing hats, growing a beard to hopefully take the focus away from my hair, and obsessing over the weather to see if it was too windy or raining.’

But eventually, Darren accepted that this is who he was, and enough was enough.

‘Now it's done I'm annoyed I didn't do it sooner. The change in how I felt was instant, the relief was instant, and I felt myself again.

‘I'm happier, feel more confident, less stressed, and most importantly - I don't care.

‘For anyone in the same position, I urge you to just bite the bullet, shave it off and just own it.’

‘It was a weight on my shoulders and a constant reminder of my past’ 🪒👨‍🦲

Cody had an extremely tough childhood, characterised by abuse and neglect. It got so bad that he began to lose his hair before male pattern baldness had set in.

‘I ended up pulling my hair out myself due to stress and having to raise my little brother for years.’

Cody’s hair loss really accelerated after the birth of his daughter, by which point it ‘literally came out in clumps’.

He tried minoxidil for a year or two with limited success, and he considered a hair transplant but was put off by the expense. And so, a couple of months ago, he bit the bullet.

‘I feel like it was a weight on my shoulders and a constant reminder of my past. I never cared if I was fat, or ugly, but my hair meant everything to me.

‘Most of my years, it was the only part of me I was proud of so I hung on. But I feel liberated from those burdens now and encourage anyone questioning to do the same.’

‘My wife helped me shave it and I’ve loved it ever since’ 🫶

Tallon started thinning in his mid 30s, and initially, he was in denial.

‘I tried minoxidil, and specialty shampoos to counteract it, but never with much success.

‘I think I held on because I kept convincing myself that it wasn't that bad. I was hesitant to embrace a drastic measure.’

It wasn't until a decade later that he accepted the game was up and it was time to take the plunge.

‘My wife helped me shave it and I've loved it ever since.

‘I'm very pleased with the decision - even if my students were quite shocked!’

Shea didn’t start thinning until he was 30, but it was hard for him to take.

‘I did find it difficult ‘cause I grew my hair out, and it was super thick and curly on the sides, but thin on the top.

‘I didn't do anything to try to counteract it ‘cause I didn't want to have to take a pill or do the topical application every day for years and years.’

Shea held on until he was 32 and was planning on taking the plunge at New Year’s, but having seen so many people glow up after braving the shave, he decided to head to the barber’s and bite the bullet.

‘It feels so much better, I look better, and it's much lower maintenance. It only took me a day to get used to it, really. It’s definitely the best decision I've made.

‘My advice is just shave it off, rather than hanging onto it. You'll feel so much more confident and comfortable.’
