We asked Louis Theroux how he actually does family days out in London…

And his answer is surprisingly simple.

Think:
🌳 proper run-around space
🍔 somewhere you can eat without stress
🎳 a few reliable go-to spots
🎭 and one slightly cheeky London life hack

It’s not about doing more.
It’s about doing it better.

Most family days out don’t fail because of the kids…

They fail because we overplan them.

Louis Theroux’s approach is basically:
✔ start with space (park / walk)
✔ add one thing for you (food, coffee, culture)
✔ then let the kids lead the rest

A few of his go-to ideas:
– Richmond Park + food nearby
– South Bank wander + easy lunch
– Kew Gardens or bowling when you need a win
– And a very cheeky free theatre trick we love

🎨 Kids + iPads + world-class art = surprisingly brilliant free day out

We’ve just visited the David Hockney exhibition at the Serpentine North Gallery in Kensington Gardens, and it’s a great one to take kids to.

Why? Because the entire “Year in Normandy” frieze was created on an iPad.

Seeing such a huge, beautiful artwork made with digital tools kids recognise suddenly makes modern art feel a lot more relatable.

It’s also completely free.

We only queued for about five minutes, but at weekends it’s worth booking a free timed slot as it can get busy.

Perfect to combine with a wander through Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, or an ice cream stop nearby.

⭐ KidRated tip: Ask the kids which season in the frieze they like best - the colours change as the year moves on.

📍 Serpentine North Gallery
💷 Free entry
🎟 Weekend booking recommended

Save this for your next free London day out with the kids.
