Liver cancer is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Europe, with most cases caused by viral hepatitis. Yet less than 4 in 10 people living with hepatitis in the EU/EEA have been diagnosed.
We must act now to prevent hepatitis from progressing to liver cancer and use policy opportunities like Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the new UN political declaration on NCDs to drive progress.
To accelerate action, the World Hepatitis Alliance, together with EASL - The Home of Hepatology, the European Cancer Organisation, and European Liver Patients' Association, is convening a hybrid event at the European Parliament hosted by MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis.
The event will bring stakeholders together to explore how to finance and embed hepatitis programmes into national cancer plans and reinvigorate the hepatitis C response in Europe.
