WHA is proud to receive the support of Gilead Sciences to help make the World Hepatitis Summit 2026 a reality.

We are also collaborating with Gilead on a campaign, BehinD the SilenCe – shining a light on the unspoken experiences of people living with hepatitis B, C, and D (delta). Together, we aim to create a space where every voice matters, every story is heard, and no one has to face viral hepatitis in silence.

Liver cancer is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Europe, with most cases caused by viral hepatitis. Yet less than 4 in 10 people living with hepatitis in the EU/EEA have been diagnosed.

We must act now to prevent hepatitis from progressing to liver cancer and use policy opportunities like Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the new UN political declaration on NCDs to drive progress.

To accelerate action, the World Hepatitis Alliance, together with EASL - The Home of Hepatology, the European Cancer Organisation, and European Liver Patients' Association, is convening a hybrid event at the European Parliament hosted by MEP Vytenis Andriukaitis.

The event will bring stakeholders together to explore how to finance and embed hepatitis programmes into national cancer plans and reinvigorate the hepatitis C response in Europe.
