We must act now if we are to turn the tide and prevent hepatitis cases advancing to liver cancer. We can do this by driving action using Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the new EU budget.

WHA and partners are organising a hybrid event at the European Parliament that'll bring together different stakeholders to discuss how to finance and embed comprehensive hepatitis programmes into national cancer plans.

Viral hepatitis is a leading cause of liver cancer. That’s why hepatitis must be integrated into cancer care programmes to save lives.

Despite progress at the UN HLM on NCDs, sustained action is still needed.

is 4 February!

Liver cancer is the third most common cause of cancer deaths worldwide, with the majority of liver cancer cases caused by viral hepatitis.

While this past year has seen excellent progress around the issue at the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, we must continue reaching key decision makers.

🚨 Member Spotlight: SAAFARA Hépatites Sénégal!

By 2040, hepatitis is expected to cause more deaths than HIV, TB, and malaria combined. Hepatitis B accounts for a significant proportion of these deaths, and for many, infection starts at birth.

In Senegal, around 17% of the population is living with hepatitis B. While the birth dose has been introduced, too many babies—especially in rural and underserved communities—are still missing out.

That’s why WHA partnered with Association Saafara Hépatites - Sénégal to develop an advocacy strategy to strengthen hepatitis B prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT), inspired by our white paper "Mothers and Babies Can’t Wait".

Protecting mothers and babies can’t wait. Community-led advocacy makes it possible.

Meet our new president, Dee Lee!

"Every 30 seconds, while the world looks the other way, another life is extinguished by viral hepatitis. That’s two people gone since I sat in this chair.

I didn’t get into this work to look at spreadsheets or attend polite galas. I got into this because at two years old, my blood was contaminated by the very system meant to protect me. I have lived the discrimination; I have felt the shame; and I have seen the global apathy that treats 300 million people like they are invisible.

I am here as the President of the World Hepatitis Alliance not to ask for a seat at the table, but to flip the table over. We have the vaccines, we have the cures, and we have the tools. The only thing we are missing is the courage to act. Today, the ‘silent killer’ finally gets a voice—and we are going to be very, very loud."
